It should have a tag under one of the cover bolts with the gear ratio. The rear end itself could be either a 7 1/4 or an 8 1/4 depending on application. An 8 3/4 will fit !! if you want to upgrade it and do away with the rubber mounting

on your fender tag see if there is a d51, d52, d53, d55 or d56 on it and figure out what rear end it is then i can tell you the gears.

If all else fails, a piece of tape on the tire and a tie wrap on the driveshaft with a buddy can get you close. Push the vehicle so the wheel rotates once and count the revolutions of the driveshaft.

whats wrong with the 8 1/4? were you expecting a 8 3/4? if so, they never came with them. 8 1/4 are plenty stout for these cars and can handle quite a bit of torque.

The only weak point, like many, is the crush sleeve. There are some reasonably priced limited slip differentials for these now, with a solid pinion sleeve you could build it into a very reliable axle. Here are some: http://www.ratechmfg.com/chryslerspbs.htm

someone has been through the car already but i was hoping that they may have put a 8 3/4 rear in it,im still trying to fiquer out the motor without having to tear it apart,,all i know is it goes like snot--lights up in first and second gear but for a 4 speed thats nothing really special,,im going to get it dynoed that should at least give me the HP and the torque,,i don't even know the block size ,i cant find any numbers its a 318 street-master intake on it,that much i do know and a 4 barrel carter carb and a nice sounding set of headers

Post some pics of the block. There should be some casting numbers on the passenger side under the head/behind the exhaust manifold.

I'm just guessing. If it has a streetmaster intake most likely it has the 2bbl heads and is a 318.
Would still make a good runner. Post a picture
