Question What the heck is a field & load relay???

So after printing the wiring diagram for my 1976 Plymouth Volare. I discovered that the damaged unit I hold is called a field & load relay... However no auto parts stores Napa, Autozone, Advanced and the local speed shop have ever heard or seen this? Is this unit necessary, what does it do? Can I bypass?.. There is very little information online about this so im at a loss. Thanks for any help.

With just the info you have stated here it sounds like your just talking about a simple bosch relay which contains a load and field circuit. This "damaged unit" that you hold can you describe it or better yet take a pic. Does it have five spade terminals on it numbered 30, 85, 86, 87, and 87a?
