i seriously doubt that its a big block...i dont think that they made any 2bbl big block cudas...im guessing that he has a 318 or 273, if its a factory 2bbl car and engine. then again, i could be wrong..

first, is the carb tuned properly? does the car feel like its running ok?

is that weiand intake single or dual plane?

when you ran, what was your mph? 17.5 at what speed? and when stock, 16.3 at what speed?

you need heads and a cam 360 heads are a good start
sounds like your drowning the engine with to much intake
flow then it hits the small heads and valves and it slows the car down
if you install stock 4 bl 360 heads on a 318 you will notice a big gain in power and thats jst stock i use a set with the smaller valves but i maxed out the port job makes great power woo hoo!!!

Have you checked to make sure you are getting full throttle since the manifold change

if you want to go fast build your chrysler just like chrysler made it!!!! i have seen this a LOT. a friend and his buddys build max-wedge cars. one guy thought he would out trick chrysler, buy useing a Holley carb. but he went slower than the factory Carter carb. you may not beleave me but. "sometimes the factory does it right"

yea those Chrysler engineers built some bad azz combos they built there stuff for racing and they did it with carter's today the edelbrock is the closest to it,
i love mine and will never go back to hollie!
chevy small block was invented buy the same guy that invented the ponitac v-8 motor and his design was" cheap and many "
and ford what a laugh just look at how many engine types they have there ***** never worked!

I actually partially disagree on the Ford comment , while I am not a fan , Ford was the only competition Mopar had in Nascar , look at the record books Gm complained & rules where changed to limit the Ford & Mopars so Gm could be competative , same in drag racing SS/A is not limited to Mopar but nothing else competes , in Prostock Mopars were handy capped but 400lbs or more if they used the Hemi . I do agree Ford had 7 different blocks , nothing interchanges , 4 engine at the 7 lt Nacar limit all with different designs & no interchangability !
I wonder if Pavleka is coming back ? probably a 318 , while the 318 is very similar to the 340 it was missing all the good parts , cam ,heads, intake, carb, exhaust & most of all compression .just throwing 4 bbl on them rarely helps !

I've never read so much BS in my life.

A GOOD mechanic can make EITHER a Holley or Edelbrock run, assuming they are not a mismatch for engine size, etc

The Weiand manifold you have is USELESS for a low rpm engine, which is what you have. What you want is something like the Edelbrock performer

Putting 360 heads on a 318 (IF that is what you have) is not the answer unless you also either mill the deck/ heads to increase compression, or change the pistons, or both BECAUSE the 360 heads are going to drop your compression ratio

If the engine is in good condition, if this is a fairly low budget build, leave the heads alone. Get a manifold which is designed for the engine. Frankly, something similar to the FACTORY 360 intake, even when installed on the small-port 318 heads, is way way better than ANY 360 degree design manifold

Dual exhaust should have been the FIRST thing you did, not the last. Trying to force more flow through a single exhaust may very WELL slow the car down!!!!

Don't go overboard on the cam. A good cam is a modern day equivalent of the old 340 68 "stick shift" cam. Several manufacturers make them.

If the above does not do it for you, then you are into heavy work, IE mentioned pistons, milling, etc, or look for a 340/ 360. Also bear in mind that milled heads/ deck also usually requires that the intake or intake side of the heads be milled to match, and you'll have to get adjustable rockers/ pushrods, or at the very least, carefully measure for correct (custom length) pushrods.

I noticed too, totally worth 440's carb comment though.
