Very slow take off

I bought a 66 Barracuda a few months ago. The previous owner swapped out the 4-speed tranny and put an automatic 3-speed in it. Do you think that would affect the acceleration of the car? Also the gears are stock.

Could be the wrong converter for your combo.

Check and make sure you are getting full throttle. also check the throttle pressure linkage - make sure it is hooked up and adjusted properly.

Quickest way to kill a TF trans is to have the throttle pressure disconnected.
Forgot to mention. Make sure the brakes are not dragging

Thanks for the tips. I will check throttle pressure linkage. Thing is after it gets moving it picks up, so it does get full throttle.

The engine is a 273 and the tranny is a 3-speed 904. I am not sure about the diff. but that is stock. So the gears are what came with the car.

After checking your linkage you could jack up the car and turn all tires by hand in Park and N or find a downhill engine off out of Park then feel and listen to the car. A good coast with no rubbing or scraping noises will eliminate alot very easily.

Right!
I put a '69 383 Magnum in a '68 Fury and with 3.23 gears..... it wasn't a tire burner. But, from 20mph, in low.... she'd jump pretty good!

V -

Is it just slow on the launch or is there a hesitation? Does it matter is the engine is cold or warm?
