Question 1973 Challenger

Hello everyone, new to the mopar scene. If you have some good advise would like to here it. I started restoring musclecars 2 years ago, have done 1965 stang fastback, 70 mach1, 72 mach1 and a 69 camaro, so I know a little bit about these cars. I recently picked up a 1973 Challenger with no motor was 318 have tranny slapstick. Clean straight body, interior fair, Arizona car where I live here in tucson. Paid $1,200 for it.This is going to be my personel car, I'm going with the 70 T/A look sublime green with blacked out hood with scoop, Would you guys recommend a 340 or go 440, just a cruiser. Do you have to change the k- member for big block? I'm 49 so my racing days are over thats why I thought a mild built 340? Any ideas would help, Thanks Pat

Welcome!

If you have a small block tranny already, I'd go with a 340 or even just a 360 with some power building goodies.

2x on that
You already have everything to take another small block

Do you know what rear end the car has?

Thanks Tim, It seems unanimous with the other replys. I'll go the 340 or 360 stroker route. Pat

I think there is a company called AAR fiberglass that does the hoods.

If you want the car to handle well in the curves definitely go witht he small block. Aluminum heads and header can lighten things up a great deal too.

If you want tires that will really stick the car to the road forget about 15's and get a set of 16" or 17" wheels. checkout tire rack
Any bigger than that looks umm well .. .anyway do it the way you want. and have a fun. I've had a lot of cars but my Challenger turns heads more than anything else.

Welcome to the forum... Got one question for you though... What do you mean that you are 49 years old and your racing days are over???? WHY?????? Hell man, I'm 60 and just finished a 2 1/2 year project called a Challenger Drag Pak.... I'm planing to wear it our 1/4 mile at a time.... if you are just tired of racing and want to get out that is OK but don't tell me that 49 is too old!!!!!

Hey, while you are on here be sure to check out the Mopar of the Month contest.. See the sticky for the simple rules and then you can help choose the monthly winners..... :welcome2:
