2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Head gasket failure & Hydro locked engine

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 68,200 miles
Head gasket failure, radiator fluid in piston. Hydro locked engine. I did not do any off roading. I do not submerge my vehicle underwater and I now need a new engine. Why is this not a recall? This is a very common problem in forums that I have read.

I can’t think of a reason I would own a 3.6 Pentastar, but I had a chuckle when my ex-wife did.

The 3.6 from 2011-2013 had problems with the left head causing valve guide issues, head gaskets to cracked seats. It was determined to be a quality issue out West. Kind of what Toyota is going through now with sand and shavings left in the engine during assembly. They extended the warranty to 150K miles on the older 3.6 engines. Just because there's antifreeze causing hydro lock doesn't necessarily mean the engine is blown. Have a tear down done and assess the cause and damage.

We had 2 engine replacements and 4 cylinder replacements on our jeep...
If your going to do an engine replacement.... Look at the Jasper engine... at least they will stand behind the warranty.... Other than that, its just a crap shoot...

If you do a goggle search on pentastar v6 engine problems they can start to develop at any mileage but usually over 50k. They generally have the same top end problems that the Ford 5.4 does at a much higher mileage, over 140k, rockers, cams, cam phasers, Timing change and guides, Pumps, in addition they also have head gaskets valves and guides, seats retainers and keepers. Everything is a potential failure point leading to catastrophic damage. You would think that after fourteen years Mopar would have it worked out.

like I mentioned before my ex bought a new loaded 22 Durango cary over in the summer of 23 with the v6 and it made me chuckle.

In the 70s and 80s Chrysler had a huge problem with pinion and carrier bearings wearing out prematurely in their differentials. In 1997 my wife's Grand Cherokee V8 had the rear end pinion bearing wear just as they did years ago. The service manager said it's always been a problem. They did fix it out of warranty as a good gesture. I haven't seen or heard of these issues lately in the diffs. Slow to react to a problem.

lol.... As soon as the valvetrain ticking noise started..... By the second time we knew that was the money noise.... 2 heads and all new valvetrain.... Crazy...
My sister had that 3.6... When it let go, i refused to put anything but a Jasper engine replacement in that thing... But she didnt want to commit to the repair cost... So down the road it went..
Made good money off selling it to someone that needed all the interior from a theft recovery.

We've come across the need for engine replacements in a fleet of Explorers and Tahoes over the past few years. Never gave Jasper a thought up until now. You sound happy with them, and I'm assuming you had good luck with them. Thanks!

Yes...really happy with the 5.3 and 6.0 on the GM side as well as there differentials ...... On the Ford side Cores where hard to get for them... But if you got one of Jaspers with all the upgrades, they lasted and performed well.... Plus I like there warranty

My friend from our car club put a Jasper engine in his 76 Firebird T/A and shelved the original engine for a later date about 20 years ago. It's still running strong.
