Compression 277

Hi. I have 56 Plymouth with 277. The compression is 105-115. Low but consistent across. The engine doesn’t smoke and oil is clean. It idles great but when I hit the gas and put a load it sputters. I’m trying different things like pertronix ignition and wires. But my question is should the engine run well with this compression? I think it should. I’m trying to diagnose. Thank you.

Today’s fuel issues might have found you, a carb kit and a couple degrees of timing should fix the old girl up.

I was thinking about the gas. Should I advance or retard the timing? I never heard that idea before. But it’s intriguing.

It sounds like it needs a couple of degrees of timing advance but put a light on it and see where it’s at.
