Correct fluid level A727

Hi I'm in Australia and have a 1979 Valiant with a 318 and A727 Torqueflite. I've just had the transmission serviced and the fluid level was 2/3 of the way up the dip stick. They told me that the A727 Torqueflite likes a bit of "extra fluid" and not to worry about it. Fluid is dripping from the rear seal and the speedo cable seal.

I've since drained 2.15 litres and the level is still about 1 inch above the full mark. This transmission has not been sold in Australia since 1981 and it is very hard to find someone with knowledge about it. Can anyone please advise whether it is correct that the A727 "likes a bit of extra fluid" or should I drain more so that the level is back down to the full level.

The fluid level should be checked with the engine running and the transmission in neutral. Then the level should be as noted for full on the dipstick.

I check mine like Drag Pack with the engine at normal operating temp. I would not recommend running it over full.

Thanks to all respondants

I'll syphon the excess fluid so I get it down to the full level when hot and in neutral.
