FNG here, 1966 300
Well hello to everyone, My name is TJ Stiles, Im the proud owner of a 1966 Chrysler 300. I build choppers and i built a 70 nova a few years ago.... never done anything mopar... but im finding out that finding parts is harder than finding bin laden apparently.
She runs, but someone put some headers on it that are NOT meant for a chrysler, they banged the torsion bars ( i think thats what they are) and the exhaust job was apparently done my the mentally handicapped and a booger thrower. the gaskets arent matching up with the headers, im guessing because the exhaust hangars broke and someone drove it around with the exhaust banging every single bump and dip. Thus jacking up the headers.
I replaced the header gasket on the passenger side, and the gasket had HOLES in it. but now the driver side has an exhaust leak so bad you can put your hand under the header gasket and feel the exhaust blowing out.
awesomeness, i get little power in first, ( its an auto tranny) but then when i get her going, she livens up, and has more power.
The gas gauge doesnt work, cant figure out why, the speedo doesnt work, explored that and for all intents and purposes it should, i havent pulled the assembly out of the dash only checked the cable. the cable doesnt rotate at all when i accellerate so im guessing its broken somewhere along the line. the heater and ac buttons are toast, but the fan still works and blows beautiful hot engine air into the car =D
no idea on miles the odometer has been the same for 20 years on all the registration papers.
the window motors need some love, but for an old car, she still has the important parts working.
Someone went into the electrical and ran a hedge trimmer through it, there are so many loose ends and bare wires, im guessing my wiring skills are going to be challenged to the max when i attempt to draw up a diagram (barf)
The front bumper is bashed in and so is the grill but i got a new grill assembly with the car, but no new bumper =(
the interior is not toooooo bad, the seats have some tears and the foam is disintegrating like a termite infested house. the carpet has a lil moldiness but not too terrible, but it should be replaced. the chrome is pitted but some steel wool brought most of it back to a pretty decent condition.
She goes from point a to b and keeps me from the cold so i love her for that. she feels good when we drive, and im already getting the emotional attachment ive always had to a vehicle i am in love with.
I found this forum and have perused quite a bit but im having trouble locating anyone who has this car. i cant find parts anywhere online, and what i do find is so ridiculously priced, id have to be high and blind to agree to pay for it.
Im taking this one step at a time and i know a classic car like this can be used for a daily driver, i drove my nova without a hitch for a few years then sold her. some drunk *** wrapped it around the front end of a semi RIP Audrey
Im here to learn and listen and glean what i can from the people who have been around this car and know its issues and hopefully find a reliable parts place to start replacing some of the parts, and getting her back to her beautiful self again! im excited beyond all hell and im looking forward to having some fun wrenching on her. I hope i can get osme sound advice here and tap into some mopar genius =)
Thanks in advance to everyone and ill try to give more than i take here.
DO FUN ****!

Tj, headers are to mopars like spandex is to fat chicks----just becuase they make it in that size doesn't necessarily mean it will really work.. Find some reliable cast iron manifolds, you want be dissapointed.

Cast iron?
ok aside from sounding heavier than hell, where do i find these mysterious cast iron headers. the hooker headers are just that.... hookers, cheap and bad for your health! the exhaust leaks so bad you can feel the exhaust blasting into your hand when you feel underneath the gasket!
my main focus right now is to get the engine and essential operating systems (start-go-stop) in reliable condition.
