Hello from the New Guy!
Hello from the New Guy!
I just realized as a new member of Moparforums, I never introduced myself, even though I've already asked for and received some great advice about my car. Time to remedy that error.
My name is Steve, but everyone knows me as Uncle Hulka. I live in Connecticut in the same town I was born. I'm married with two sons (34 & 32) and two grandchildren (7 & 5). Like a lot of folks here, I'm a certified, dyed-in-the-wool Musclecar nut. I've owned a lot of cars and some of my favorites have been Mopars. I'm in the process of my first (and last) body-off, rotisserie restoration on my 1970 Chevelle. I've learned more about cars on this project that all the previous years combined. The project has drained me physically, emotionally and financially, but the education has been priceless (at least that's how I explain it to my wife).
The only Mopar in the stable right now is a 1968 Sport Fury convertible that was special ordered with the Super Commando 440 (PH27L8). It's a little rough looking, but I've put a lot into necessary repairs. This past weekend, my friend and I pulled the 727, completely rebuilt it using a Master kit from PATC (Red Eagle clutches, Kolene steels, etc.), a 4.2 ratio kickdown lever and a special flex band. We also installed a TransGo TF-2 kit. Before we started, the trans was really weak. When we got her apart, it's a wonder it could even move the car! The clutches and the band were worn down to bare metal. No material left anywhere! Now, the car pulls harder than the '68 Road Runner I owned back when Reagan was in office! For a big car, she delivers impressive performance.
I owe a big 'Thank You' to the folks who shared their experiences and opinions on questions I had before starting the 727 rebuild. They helped give me the courage to jump in and do it. Because of them, I'm going to be cruising her to Musclepalooza XVIII this Weekend!
I look forward to contributing what I can, when I can. Thanks for a great site!
All The Best,
Uncle Hulka
PS - I have a blog over at wildaboutcars.com called "Musclecar Memories". It's mostly stories from my early automotive experiences and if you get the chance to read any, I would love to hear what you think. Some are funny. Some are embarrassing, but they're all true. You probably should start at the very beginning. The first entry is from August 2011.
Thanks!

For the record, the nickname was given to me way before the movie. When I was a kid I collected 'The Incredible Hulk' comics.
