NEW HERE JUST NEED TO GET STARTED

DeathVader , Today 03:41 PM

Ok I bought a 67 cuda notchback, 225 super slant 6 and everything is matching numbers and original. Body has some minor rust, needs new seats and probably the motor taken apart and cleaned. Has I think 68k original miles. So my question is how do you keep it all original and keep matching numbers if you need to do body work or exchange the seats. I'm new to this and it's probably a dumb question but I'd like to be pointed in the right direction before I do something stupid.

Welcome to the forum, numbers matching references the body motor and transmission VIN number.

So would it be best to leave the same motor and trans in? I know there are much better motors for this cuda but to keep it all original I should just have the motor fixed up. Also what about the paint? How does that work as far as keeping it original. Just paint it the same color?

Me personally with a 6 there wouldn't be much of a chance that the car would stay as Chrysler built it. Maybe a modern hemi four wheel disc breaks and wheels and tires.
But that's me.......

Welcome to the site.... Looks like a good project, and looks like you have a fine helper their.
I say build it the way that most satisfies you. As long as you take lots of photos and save all the old parts. It can always go back to were its at if needed.
Do 1 thing at a time.... Get it running.... Drive it and enjoy it some... And then send it in for paint... and then do the upholstery…. maybe not in that order, but I would not take it all apart unless you already have the budget to finish it after starting.... Good Luck, Keep us posted... Nice project...

P.S. Paint white with black strips & Hemi Hood Scoop,.... Black interior with a counsel shifter..... UpGrade all the suspension parts with new, add power disc brakes, dana 60 with 4.10's limited slip,.... 408ci efi, with 904 trans..... Add H.D. cooling and A/C... And I would be loving life and cruise the wheels off that bad girl !!!!!

Keep us posted on your thoughts..

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful car in remarkably good condition, nice find.

I agree with Racerhog with not taking it apart until you have a plan and some money saved. If it was me I would replace all of the brake system with power and add disk up front. Steel wheels with good rubber are fine. Then get the engine and trans running and DRIVE the car.
You will find out how much fun these cars are and hit some cruise events while saving money. This also gives you time to clean up the interior and get the rust repaired. This is much easier when the thing runs and drives so you can get it from shop to shop.

It is your car do with it what you want. It will never be a Hemi Cuda or worth big $$$$ BUT a nice 340 would be a great up grade, but once you start that you will end up replacing everything in the drive train and brake upgrade is a must !!! regardless of which way you go !!!
