new to me duster

Hello everyone, back to the world of mopar's, had a 1974 duster when I was 19 now I replaced it. Need's work yet, but I'm super excited. Floor's are better then most newer car's in this stupid state. Body just has some surface rust, new mexico car, no engine but has a 3 and 4 speed that came with it. Set up for a small block and has the 8 3/4" rear end. Factory sublime green paint, under alot of other paint. All in all A pretty good place to start.

Welcome!

That is a great starting point. Beefy trans and rear axle already..... you'll need to build a strong motor. Plans for it?

I'm hoping for a well built 340 when I can get to that point. I may be buying a 1974 truck from a friend of mine with a 318 4 speed and the same rear to get it driveable. I think I can snag a bunch of goodies off it for the duster. Then the 318 can go in my 2000 jeep wrangler, alway's wanted a v-8 in the jeep.

I don't thinkt he truck will have an 8 3/4 rear..... maybe a 9 1/4 though. Whatever you do, don't get rid of that 8 3/4 as it is very stout!

Good to hear that you have a plan!

Post up the jeep as well.

Oh no i'm keeping the rear that was one of my favorite pieces. I really don't know much about the rear end of the truck, but i can use the bellhousing and some other stuff off it and either sell or scrap the rest. He only want's $300 new clutch and it run's he just snapped the pinion yoke and doesn't want to deal with it anymore.

I'd say get the truck and use the motor and trans since it's already bolted together. You'll just have to measure out the length to make sure that it will fit proper in the Duster.

Nice looking Jeep. You push the rear back 3"?

It's alway's nice to have somewhere to go to get advice when we get stuck on a problem. Cuse somewhere someone else has gone through the same problem and can save alot of headache's and money. Rear back 2" front forward 1". Also 3" wider then stock, wicked stable. Locker's front and rear.

Should be picking up and parting out the part's truck (1974 1/2 ton 318 4 speed 4x4 divorced transfer case with a new clutch), the next couple of day's. This should net me some good usable part's and what I can't use I will sell and then scrap all the other crap.

Well started the tear down tuesday, wiring (what's left of it), trunk lid, gas tank and filler, and all the rest of the front end gone. Everything feel apart no broken bolt's and no penetrating oil was even used. I was waiting for the doom to start but before I knew it 3 hour's passed and I was done. Got to love southern bodies. Everything underneth was just as clean as the rest, no bad surprises. Blew me away the even the sealer in the seam's behind the fender's was still intact.
