I have a 1937 plymouth coupe with a 318 thats out of a 75 dodge van and i put a mild cam in it and a four barrell carb and when i get up to highway speeds and at 2000 rpms and higher rpms the car sueges and doesnt want to keep running or when i romp on it around a corner its like nothings there then all of a sudden it takes off and goes and i have put non ethanol fuel in it mnoved the fuel lines and cleaned the car and it still does it and dont know what to else to do and would like some advise please and thank you

 

floats set to low? only reason i say that is cuz i had the same happen to me, or a slighlty plugged fuel line/filter

 

Is it a new carb? Is the timing set correctly?

 

Floats were the first thing to pop into my mind. Maybe mal adjusted or sticking.

the timing is set correct and i was told today that the fuel line thats on there now is 3/8 brak line and that the flares could be restricting the flow of the fuel because i do have good fuel pressure but not enough volume to go high speed or rpms

 

Replace the line with the proper one and keep us posted.

 

I put the 3/8 metal fuel line in my 37 plymouth and it didnt help it to run better so now im going to check the floats

 

Here is an excerpt form Edelbrock's carb manual.

"The vehicle will perform well, but may be
prone to stalls on quick turns and stops with the clutch disengaged. If this problem occurs, check the fuel pressure. If it is more than 6.0 psi at IDLE, it should be reduced through the use
of a regulator, such as Edelbrock #8190, or by creating a restricted by-pass bleed to the fuel return line. Edelbrock Street Fuel Pumps are highly recommended for all Edelbrock Performer
Series carburetor installations."
