d100

I thinking about a d100 or maybe go with a newer truck and put in a 360 motor and 727 transmission but i did a little research and found a crate 360 (1366$) i was only wondering how much would it cost to build the crate engine. you know like buying the valve cover, oil pan and etc. Also is this a good crate motor

thats a stock rebuilt motor. do you want more than 200hp or ??
You can usually find a good used complete 360/727 combo for around $500 or less. Look on craigslist and see if there are any low mileage motors and trannys. ebay is also another source for used or new motors. what is your goal for the truck?

A reg cab/short bed D100/D150 is a good option. You can get an engine/tranny combo like Matt said and get some bolt on performance parts for it (intake, headers, carb, dizzy, etc.). You can get a good 300+hp and torque in a daily driver and still be able to have fun with it.

If you go with a crate motor, get one that already has performace parts on it.

I drive a 70 D100 short bed with a built 360/727tf out of a 72 duster. Plenty of power.

The little parts will be pricey.. There are some posts on here for magnum junk yard 360 swaps. It takes a 727 or the earlier 46RH OD can be used. I think "Barry.Kinney" ( forum name) just did this with a 120k magnum 5.9L motor and when he disassembled it was in such good shape he put it back together. I have seen this alot. I have one that I beat on and it won't die!!! So Im getting another one to do a stroker on and will keep this one as a spare or sell.

I would grab a motor / tranny together like said above and use your funds to make it right for what you need.

I would go with the later 360 roller motor, and the 518/46rh. Try and find one complete with accessories,, by that I mean brackets, alt,ps, Mid 90s trans and a later motor 1998- 2000

Buy a 92-95/95 2wd dodge 1500 for a few hundred bucks that way you have everything you need for the swap, engine, tranny, wiring, PCM, TCM, brackets, etc.
