Yes.. Bill....
This has been a long drug out fight. After the Closing of Terminal Island some years back. The Brotherhoods of street racing have been trying to get back a place to race for the south LA area...
I raced at that track some years back... I was what I would now days call a true "Outlaw" track... Run-what-you-brung type racing...

Here is some more info on the main man that set up this track... R.I.P. Big Willie Robinson

IMHO racing out side of a controlled set up, is a bad idea. the big Q is do you want to race next to a car that does not meet a min safety spec? what do say to your brothers wife when he is killed in or by an unsafe car? and you was there. that wont happen at a NHRA track.

That is a very good point Moe, But it is so much fun to street race. It is kinda like your mother saying if you don't stop it you'll go blind.. Or Momma always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun, But momma that's where the fun is...Lol just busting on you, You ole kill joy...Bob That's the article I was reading it is good to see they are trying to make a come back and keep it safe at the same time...Bill

I am not directly involved in street racing anymore. But i will say that I have done a Chit load of it out here in California. But when you run to fast at the track you have to go and put in more equipment to meet spec's... I could not afford that type of equipment at the time, thats when I started Street racing. I later could afford the equipment and did get involved in NHRA racing. I did encounter a few close calls, But I never had anything get away from me... You could call me "Lucky" i guess?

I'm about 3/4 & 1/4 for wins and losses... Always pick'in on the Big Gun and asking for cars and the go....

years ago i did go to a lot of NHRA races. they do a good job on safety. but some times they are like the gestapo. in the late 60 in tulsa i saw the NHRA tecs stop a guy with an al hood max wedge wanting to use a steel hood cause his al hood took off flying. but NO that car HAS to have the al hood.

Back when I raced my 72 Charger at a NHRA track. It was the first weekend opened for the year and it was test and tune day. Over the winter I built a 340 and it was built the year before the car was running 13.4 (in the quarter) all day long consecutively.. So at the test and tune day the car ran 10.9 .. The official stopped me on the return road and told me my day was over. I said why??? He then gave me a list of things the car had to have when running that time.. Like you said Bob it was a killer and was going to be Thousand to get the car up to spec. So the next week I went and just told them I went back to the other engine.. So I was sandbagging all year and just stood on the brakes at the end or kept the car just ahead of the other guy... I ended up the year top in points in my class and felt like I beat the system but at the same time felt very dishonest.. I think they knew the score but couldn't really do anything about it as long as I didn't go to fast and break out of the class....Bill

years ago when bracket racing came out i didnt like it. i just thought it was for guys that could not build a class car. but i know better now. i knew a few guys bracket racing and found out how much different you build, drive so on than a class racing. any kind of racing is not easy. just dont let me see a hose going from fuel pump to the carb.

Cool Beans Guy's....... Terminal Island was very Cool in many ways....
If you where to start crap down at that track... Willie would call your chit out... Even if it was knuckle to knuckle... And he also had a boat load of back up to go with it.... You could almost run anything there within reason... My son even raced our mini bike ageist a couple of the field crews scooter bikes and won...
Yep,, thats a true story... It's in "Full throttle Magazine"

Dont get me wrong... I think back on all that I have done... And I still feel better at the track. There is allot less to stress out about.

Here is a old rivalry Gypsy Mike.... Take your on what to watch...

AHHH, memories of street racing. It was like an American Graffiti Paradise until fast and furious reared their ugly heads with the tuner crowd....

Is that from the Norton Air force Base in San Bernardino ?? Regardless they did do an inspection at Terminal Island Not a full on NHRA inspection, they did try and make sure the cars were safe At Norton ? it was claustrophobic on the starting line considering the room they had available..
The financial implications of street racing are life altering

That Would be Norton.... I'm real sure they have enough support... But it would be cool to see racing back in South L.A. in the port...

With everything that happens in Compton I'm surprised they don't run 1-2 nights a week
just to keep it off the street..

^ And when you take your 20 in single speed Huffy down that track, you lose sight for the finish line, twice. Go ahead, ask me how I know. ^

But the last time I got to go racing was there, in my Father's '64 Chevelle. I was a much younger me then. Anyone remember when they ran a jet dragster down that track?

P.S. Watch out for the drop off at the end!

P.S.S: Sorry for bringing up an old post. I do miss that place.

So-CAL is getting ready to loose another track after the first of the year... Irwindale is going to close the doors again... 1999 - 2017...

Big Willie was 6'6" ? about 300 lbs. Nobody argued with him. Back in the day I remember we would meet & cruse behind the old Zody's store and then go out on Etiwanda Ave very deserted area.
What ever happened to the strip they were going to build out in Banning

LOL... Them was good days... Willie always was taking care of bizness....lol
Zody's Alhambra? Lynn?
Ontario was a good place to race back then... Lots of open land...
Some of the boy's from Compton or Westside L.A. would drag some stuff out and we would go out to 710 & Valley Blvd.
New York Drive was also good for the Pasadena Group..
And FootHill out in the Monrovia....
Mission Blvd and Eastend would get it going on at times...

Banning.... Money, and the FAA from the little Airport shut that deal down.. Will see what pops up next....
Irwindale is going to get torn down after the first of the year... Well that's what they are saying anyway....

Not a real believer in street racing. It could end in disaster.
