Off to the track tonight...

Not to race, but to watch. This is a track where you can race just about
any kind of car tho. From what I understand anyway.

$5 to watch, $10 to race

Check out the schedule! "Mopar Against The World!" next month!!!!

just if I can get that darn hesitation fixed!

Joe.

Mopar against the world huh? It would be great if you could get some pics during that event. It would be even more great if you could get the truck in there.

It was a fun evening at the races. My son seemed to enjoy it, I am really hoping it gets in his blood. After all 'he' can drive on the track too .

I was bugging a lot of innocent bystanders asking questions but nobody really seemed to mind. Of coarse the first thing we did was to park in someones reserved parking area

It was everything I hoped it would be. People were drag racing everything from 5.9 second cars to motor scooters that were topping out at around 30 miles per hour. The majority of the cars ran around 8 to 9 seconds, with the fastest around 6 sec and a few in between. The slowest class they had was 12 seconds when it came down to the actual racing.

I found a minor mistake in the wiring of my ballast resistor this morning, I know "read your own darn diagrams" and this afternoon I'm going to pick up and install a smaller set of Primary metering jets in hopes this will fix my hesitation problem.

If all goes well we will be present for the "Open Testing" they have next Tuesday. I'm guessing it just like time trials without the racing afterward.

Can our truck do 90 miles per hour in a 1/8 of a mile? Can I stomp down on the gas without the engine croaking?

Well I am hoping it gets in my sons blood, but it's already boiling in mine

Here is a link to my photobucket album of the time trials last night.

ive had speedometers read 90 in less than a 1/8 mile, in about 10 feet,,

but getting a car to go 90 in a 1/8th is pretty fast

Well see I'm kinda shifty, I got my son to go down there with me as his fathers day gift to me... and tonight I took my Dad down there as my fathers day gift to him

It was great both nights!!

The Daytona was there both nights and is one of the fastest cars on the track with times of around 5.9 - 6.0 seconds. Comes out to around 120 mph if I am remembering right. Tonight there were more Mopars in the field.
A couple of '71 Challengers and a '72 Duster all of which are of the same caliber as the Daytona, Super Modified ? I'm not sure but there are fast and awesome to see.

No jets from Auto Zone again today, buggers keep telling me tomorrow, tomorrow. So now we are waiting till Monday for them to come in.

I haven't been this excited for a long time, and it's so great I think I've finally found something my son will want to do together. I think he is exited too.

Joe.

Actually, 88mph is when I'm holding back to 12.00s. I looked at my timeslip from friday, 7.50 @ 90.8 something, which was an 11.86 @ 112.6 something pass

My main set of tires are 27 inch, my backups are 26"

Joe - To hit 90 in the 1/8 mile with your truck, I think you will need a little more than what you have right now. Not so much with the motor, just suspension and traction. I'm sure that you can do it though.

I have yet to have any trouble with traction as the truck is far from spinning the tires LOL

I am Laughing Out Loud only because tonight we made great strides, although all was not perfect.

The primary jets I took out of the carb were .098" and I 'tried' to replace them with a pair of .071" . Nope that did not work, the metering rods would only pass through to the second step and stopped right there, the engine would just run out of fuel idling and dump completely if I tried revving it up.

Back in went the originals........alot of screwing around later.....(for the umphteenth time) and a BIG step forward!!!!!

I found that the secondary throttle was only opening about 3/4 of the way when I stomped it right down. I little piece of linkage connects the primary and secondary throttles, I bent it to shorten it up and bingo!!!! She sets you back in the seat only a little bit but it aint stalling, backfiring or completely dieing anymore.

Yes, bending that linkage correctly IS part of the rebuild instruction.... and No I did not check it when we rebuilt the carb. I feel a little foolish, Happy, but foolish for not following the instructions to the letter.

My son and I are off to the track tomorrow for test night. My Dad is following along and I'm sure to have him take some pictures, gosh I can't wait LOL again!!!

Oh, one thing I learned about the jets. Carters number system on the jets looks like this
120 398 . I have no idea what the 120 is but I think it's on all the jets, maybe somehow it's the outside diameter. Anyway the 398 on my jets translates to .098" you just subtract 3. And if the number was 415 the the size would be .115" I just read this somewhere else, but it seems to be correct.

Joe.

Eight total. And there in lye's one of the things I learned. We just kept going around with no breaks, the engine got very warm very fast. of coarse it has the 4 cylinder radiator and no shroud so things got a little temped

Its also a good idea to mess around with engine temp when you're running.

On a really cold night w/ good air, my car will run faster when i stage at 200, rather then my normal of 180.

Gotta leave on the last yellow, not the green.

The engine got HOT, like I could not hold onto the distributor to adjust the timing, hot.

The track is located just outside of Kaleva Michigan. A larger town near by would be Manistee.
