Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 12.888/67.29, Now #1
Right Lane: Grace Howell Runs 15.763/52.80, Now #2

6:11 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 96 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.04 inches, adjusted altitude 4,138 feet, track temperature 124 degrees.

These are new Pro Stock drivers, but they are also both very experienced Sportsman competitors, despite their relatively young ages.
Maybe it was planned, maybe both had early tire shake problems, but they left together and then shut off after 200 feet or so.

Left Lane: Paul Pittman Runs 6.847/201.58, Now #1
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence No Time, Now #4

Pittman's background is with "real horsepower," the four-legged kind. Lawrence got as far as the water, shut it off. Pittman made what looked like a full pass (tough to tell from here).

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.775/204.11, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave River Runs 6.911/199.43, Now #3

Looked like two more full passes, no visible problems.

Left Lane: Mark Hogan No Time, Now #8
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.736/205.98, Now #1

Hogan got as far as the water, left by way of the short chute.

Left Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.842/202.67, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.790/203.92, Now #3

Gugliotta is debuting his new '11 Mustang here. Both drivers have lots of experience in the 'mountain-motored" variety Pro Stocks, both are getting their "stripes" with the 500-inch variety.

Two full passes, don't know how good just yet, it's hot and nasty out there.

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 13.665/62.78, Now #9
Right Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.801/205.60, Now #4

Perkinson is making his debut with Larry Morgan power.

Benza launched, shook, and lifted. Good run by perkinson for the conditions.

Left Lane: Steve Kent Runs 23.094/33.36, Now #12
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 7.652/200.80, Now #8

kent shook immediately and coasted through. Lots of tire shake by WJ.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 10.328/163.99, Now #10
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.679/207.24, Now #1

KJ shook and slowed. Gaines made the best run so far and he's #1 for now.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.710/206.42, Now #2
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.714/205.79, Now #3

Two solid runs here, but Gaines remains atop the list.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 15.713/53.51, Now #16
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.716/206.13, Now #4

Krisher shook and headed for the centerline, so he clicked it off.Gray made a clean pass, now he's #4.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.706/206.54, Now #2
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 12.547/69.43, Now #15

Right now, it appears the left lane is the lane of choice. Brogdon got about 100 feet out in the right lane, then the car made a sharp left turn and he had to lift quickly to save it. Meanwhile, Stanfield made a nice run down the left lane to move into the #2 spot.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.707/207.72, Now #4
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.703/206.07, Now #2

It's not the lane. Enders went right down the groove with just a tiny wiggle about 100 feet out. AJ also made a nice, straight run, got there second, but with a higher speed.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.673/207.66, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.657/208.04, Now #1

Gaines was still #1 when these two launched, #3 when they crossed the stripe. Two solid runs, quick and straight and fast.

Vincent Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-1.004 sec., 330ft-2.798, 660ft-4.296/164.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.587.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.999 sec., 330ft-2.791, 660ft-4.286/164.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.573.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.650/207.62, Now #2
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.650/208.04, Now #1

The Summit Team closed out a troubled session, the weather and track conditions challenging most of the teams. They showed why they are atop the points with a pair of almost-flawless runs for the conditions to take over the top two spots. They ran identical ETs, Anderson #1 by speed.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.277/165.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.564.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.790, 660ft-4.280/165.42 mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
After one hot, slick session, it's Anderson #1 and Mark Martino is on the bump spot at 6.736.

Right Lane: Grace Howell Runs 8.584/112.32, Now #23; Best prior run: 15.763/52.80, Was #27

Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.727/206.04, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.652/200.80, Was #24

Two full passes, both drivers improved, but both are still outside the field.

KJ replaces Krisher on the bump spot. Perkinson improves, still needs to find almost a tenth.

Left Lane: Paul Pittman Runs 6.966/200.77, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.847/201.58, Was #25
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.819/202.55, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.790/203.92, Was #20

Left Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.798/204.29, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.842/202.67, Was #24
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.718/205.63, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.736/205.98, Was #16

Martino was bumped from the field earlier this round, came up a thousandth short of getting back in.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.788/203.12, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.775/204.11, Was #19
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.709/206.23, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.716/206.13, Was #11

Identical 1.105 60-foot times, but Schmidt could not stay with Gray after that, Gray making the quickest run of the round so far.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.699/207.24, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.710/206.42, Was #10
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.719/205.79, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.714/205.79, Was #11

Humphrey made a killer run for the conditions, the quickest and fastest so far. Morgan made a good run, failed to improve.

Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.695/206.42, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.703/206.07, Was #7

Two nice runs, the two quickest of the round so far, and AJ runs the best speed of the round.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.733/205.69, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.706/206.54, Was #9

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.699/207.85, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.673/207.66, Was #4
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.675/207.59, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.657/208.04, Was #3

Edwards made a great run for the conditions, Nobile's was not as good, but it's still the fourth-quickest of the session.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.668/208.07, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.650/207.62, Was #2
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.647/208.23, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.650/208.04, Was #1

Last pair. They ran identical ETs yesterday, probably won't improve in this session because of the conditions.

So much for predicting things...Line made a good run, but Anderson not only ran the best run of the session, he ran the best of the weekend, low ET and top speed! He did say yesterday that he left a bit on the starting line with tire spin, looked like he got off the line better today.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.279/165.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.564.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-1.008 sec., 330ft-2.800, 660ft-4.294/164.93 mph, 1,000ft-5.583.

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Grace Howell Runs 7.354/149.23, Now #28; Best prior run: 8.584/112.32, Was #28
Right Lane: Paul Pittman Runs 6.795/202.45, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.847/201.58, Was #25

7:35 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 28.93 inches, adjusted altitude 3,923 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Kurt Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.717.
These are the best conditions we've had so far, so look for the 12-car field to shuffle several times this round.
Howell's car went left again and she had to tiptoe along the wall to keep from scraping the paint off.

Left Lane: Dave River Runs 7.693/128.58, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.911/199.43, Was #26
Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 9.165/102.08, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.819/203.22, Was #25

Hogan's car wagged its tail a couple times and he shut it down. River got further down the track, did the same.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.864/201.46, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.941/199.23, Was #27
Right Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 7.128/151.90, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.798/204.29, Was #24

Gugliotta's car trailed a bit of smoke on the top end and he slowed. Lawrence made his best run of the weekend, moved up one spot, still well out of the field.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.817/201.34, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.790/203.92, Was #20
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.753/203.61, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.793/203.22, Was #22

benza made his best run of the weekend, he's still a few hundredths short. Spiess failed to improve.

Left Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.710/206.16, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.792/206.01, Was #22
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.766/203.34, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.775/204.11, Was #20

Perkinson made a nice run to bump into the field. Schmidt improved slightly, still needs a few hundredths. Now Larry Morgan (Perkinson's engine builder) is on the bump spot at 6.714.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.678/206.45, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.760/205.26, Was #20
Right Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 6.742/206.32, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.747/205.85, Was #18

Nice run by Brogdon, bumping Morgan from the field. McGaha spun the tires hard and came up short of the mark. Now Buddy Perkinson is on the bump spot at 6.710.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.693/207.02, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.727/206.04, Was #18
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.680/206.10, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.706/206.54, Was #10

WJ bumps Perkinson and Stanfield jumps to the top half of the field, both cars making straight, smooth runs. Now Shane Gray is on the bump spot at 6.709. There are still several cars in the lanes with a shot at bumping Gray.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.699/205.98, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.714/205.79, Was #14
Right Lane: Steve Kent Runs 6.685/206.51, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.720/206.07, Was #18

Morgan got to the stripe first, putting him back into the field. Kent got there 0.0023 seconds later, bumping Morgan back out of the field. Now Ronnie Humphrey is on the bump spot at 6.699.

Left Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.696/205.60, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.718/205.63, Was #17
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.662/207.72, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.720/206.57, Was #18

As predicted, the field is being shuffled with every pair down the track, sometimes with every car.

Martino got to the stripe first, was quick enough to get in. 0.0485 seconds later, Krisher got there and bumped him back out again. Now Erica Enders is on the bump spot at 6.695.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.664/207.08, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.679/207.24, Was #7
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.677/207.18, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.717/206.48, Was #18

Two nice runs and both should be safely in the field now. That puts Warren Johnson on the bump spot at 6.693.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.707/206.51, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.709/206.23, Was #17
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.660/207.02, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.699/207.24, Was #15

The bumping continues...Humphrey bumped back into the field, way into the field. Gray improved slightly, not enough to get back in. Now Allen Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.691.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.651/207.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.695/206.42, Was #14
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.666/207.21, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.673/207.66, Was #7

Enders runs low ET of the round and she's back in. Nobile improves, loses a spot because Enders leapfrogged over him on the list. Now Steve Kent is on the bump spot at 6.685.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.672/197.97, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.657/208.04, Was #4
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.733/207.56, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.691/207.78, Was #13

AJ was just bumped by Enders. AJ failed to improve and he's on the outside, will start over tomorrow. Edwards also failed to improve, but he was safely in the field before making the run.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.629/208.01, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.647/208.23, Was #1
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.640/208.17, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.650/207.62, Was #2

Last pair and one of them will be #1 after they get to the other end.

It will still be Anderson. Line beat Anderson's previous #1 ET, but so did Anderson and he is once again quickest of the session, staying #1.

Round 4 Qualifying

Sun, 4 Sep 2011, 11:48 AM

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #4
By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 6.777/204.76, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Grace Howell Runs 12.942/66.17, Now #14; No Prior Run

11:13 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 70 percent, barometer 28.97 inches, adjusted altitude 2,946 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Since the field goes from 12 to 16 and everybody lower than 12 yesterday gets to start over today, these two are in the field (briefly). Howell once again shuts down quickly, Hogan makes a full pass.

Left Lane: Paul Pittman Runs 14.570/57.66, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.887/200.92, Now #14; No Prior Run

Pittman shook and shut off quickly. Lawrence made a full pass. Now we have a bump time and the games begin.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 9.600/81.01, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.712/204.11, Now #13; No Prior Run

Schmidt slowed before going 300 feet. Spiess made a full pass, but that time won't hold up. Then the "over-the-wall" gang took a close look at Schmidt's lane and picked up some small pieces.

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.726/204.63, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.698/206.70, Now #13; No Prior Run

These two got in, putting Mark Hogan on the bump spot at 6.777.

Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 12.800/94.21, Now #20; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.690/206.26, Now #13; No Prior Run

McGaha shut off almost immediately with tire shake. Gray made a good run, don't know if it will hold up.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.643/207.91, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.688/206.16, Now #14; No Prior Run

Bob Benza was on the bump spot at 6.726. These two figured to be able to beat that...and they did, AJ running low ET of the round so far, puts him third overall. Morgan slips into fourteenth, that may not stand up. Now Buddy Perkinson is on the bump spot at 6.698.

Left Lane: Steve Kent Runs 6.714/206.26, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.685/206.51, Was #13
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.686/206.51, Now #14; No Prior Run

Kent was already in the field, Martino was quicker than the current bump time yesterday, but below the provisional line.

Kent failed to improve, Martino made a nice pass and he's in the field. Now Shane Gray is on the bump spot at 6.690.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.666/206.61, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.680/206.10, Was #12
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.707/206.70, Now #18; No Prior Run

Stanfield was already in, WJ did not make the cut yesterday and his best time yesterday was slower than the current bump time.

Johnson's car wagged its tail hard on the launch and he failed to get into the field. Stanfield improved and moved up a couple spots.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.682/207.40, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.677/207.18, Was #11
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.660/207.15, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.678/206.45, Was #12

The remaining cars are already in the field. Dave River and Frank Gugliotta should have run before now, apparently won't be out in this round. We understand River is done, broke his only engine yesterday. Don't know about Gugliotta.

Nice run by Brogdon to move to the top half.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.634/208.17, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.666/207.21, Was #10
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.624/208.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.657/208.04, Was #5

Two great runs, Edwards knocking Anderson off the top spot. Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.766, 660ft-4.258/165.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.542.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.683/207.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.662/207.72, Was #9
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.666/206.99, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.664/207.08, Was #10

No improvement for either driver, both with good runs, just not better runs.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.637/207.53, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.660/207.02, Was #8
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.645/207.43, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.651/207.30, Was #6

Humphrey made a very nice run to move up four spots. Enders also improved, but lost one spot in the order because of Humphrey's great run.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.624/208.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.640/208.17, Was #5
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.623/208.55, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.629/208.01, Was #2

Anderson has made the quickest run in all three prior qualifying sessions, but Edwards just threw down the gauntlet. The Summit duo was up to the challenge, however, Anderson taking the top spot back and Line tying DEdwards' ET. Edwards gets the #2 spot on speed.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.768, 660ft-4.257/165.21 mph, 1,000ft-5.542.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.768, 660ft-4.257/165.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.541.

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 5 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Grace Howell Runs 6.715/204.60, Now #20; Best prior run: 12.942/66.17, Was #25
Right Lane: Paul Pittman Runs 6.788/203.34, Now #23; Best prior run: 14.570/57.66, Was #26

4:19 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 67 percent, barometer 28.97 inches, adjusted altitude 2,964 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

It's last chance time, Shane Gray is on the bump spot at 6.690.
Howell finally gets a full pass to bring an end to her first outing in Pro Stock and she lights the win light, Pittman slowing quickly with tire shake.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.817/201.01, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.887/200.92, Was #24
Right Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 6.656/206.95, Now #8; Best prior run: 12.800/94.21, Was #26

McGaha made a pretty run, jumping into the field right in the middle. That's his best run of the weekend, by a tenth of a second. Lawrence also cards his best of the weekend and he'll have to settle for that. Now Larry Morgan is on the bump spot at 6.688.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.702/204.20, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.712/204.11, Was #20
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.748/203.43, Now #23; Best prior run: 9.600/81.01, Was #26

Two more take their last shot and both record their best times of the weekend.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.689/206.16, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.707/206.70, Was #20
Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 11.530/76.01, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.777/204.76, Was #24

Hogan's car squatted, wiggled, and he gave it up. WJ made a good run, missed the field by a thousandth.

Left Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.674/206.57, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.698/206.70, Was #19
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.740/205.04, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.726/204.63, Was #22

Both drivers were about two hundredths outside the field earlier today...Perkinson improves and he's in the field, for now, anyway. Benza failed to improve and he's done for the weekend. That puts Mark Martino on the bump spot at 6.686.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.665/206.48, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.690/206.26, Was #19
Right Lane: Steve Kent Runs 6.683/206.70, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.685/206.51, Was #15

Gray was just 0.004 seconds outside the field, Kent was just 0.004 seconds inside, based on their first-session times.

Both drivers improved, Gray by enough to jump over Kent, putting him on the bump spot.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.690/206.48, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.688/206.16, Was #18
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.646/207.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.677/207.18, Was #15

Morgan had a good shot at bumping into the field, but he failed to improve and stays two positions outside the starting sixteen. KJ improved nicely, making his best run of the event to move into the top half - for now.

Left Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.671/206.54, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.686/206.51, Was #17
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.663/206.20, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.666/206.61, Was #14

Martino was the last car with a shot at bumping Kent from the field, and he pulled it off, with one position to spare. He will start 15th, and Buddy Perkinson will start sixteenth. Stanfield also improved slightly, will start 12th or 13th.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.648/207.53, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.664/207.08, Was #13
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 10.357/86.97, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.662/207.72, Was #11

Krisher launched, shook, and lifted. Gaines made a nice run, came up just short of the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.637/206.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.660/207.15, Was #11
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.623/208.33, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.643/207.91, Was #6

Brogdon is the last driver in line with a chance to move into the top half of the field.

These two were locked together for the first 330 feet, then AJ pulled away and moved up to the second spot - again, for now. Brogdon moved into the top half of the field, pushing KJ into the bottom half.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.656/207.21, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.645/207.43, Was #8
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.630/207.88, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.637/207.53, Was #6

Enders made a nice run, failed to improve. Humphrey's run did not look as smooth, but he improved enough to move up one position in the order.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.613/208.04, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.624/208.59, Was #3
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.633/208.42, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.634/208.17, Was #6

r the second time today, Edwards moved into the #1 spot with a strong run, but the rookie driver in the other lane wasn't far behind.

Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.754, 660ft-4.246/165.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.530.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.610/208.26, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.623/208.55, Was #2
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.603/209.01, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.624/208.26, Was #4

Once again Edwards threw down the gauntlet and once again Anderson was trying to be the quickest of the session to sweep the qualifying bonus points for the event.

Well, Anderson outran Edwards, by three thousandths. However, while we were all admiring Anderson's scoreboard, the realization came that his teammate, Line, had stolen the moment with the quickest and fastest run of the weekend.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.759, 660ft-4.244/165.80 mph, 1,000ft-5.524.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.757, 660ft-4.245/165.33 mph, 1,000ft-5.529.

Round 1 Eliminations

Results for Elimination Round 1
CLERMONT, Ind. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil:

W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

(W) Erica Enders (ZaZa Energy Cobalt) 0.002 6.596 209.26
(L) Kurt Johnson (Total Seal GXP) 0.037 6.581 209.04

12:24 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 1,905 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.
Johnson is 6 - 1 against Enders in prior events and has won this event twice - in '96 and '97. That said, Enders has been the stronger runner of the two this season.
Enders won this one on the Christmas tree, KJ running low ET of the weekend.
Erica Enders' incremental margins: 60ft(0.026), 330 ft(0.017), 660ft(0.017), 1,000ft(0.019). MOV: 0.0208 seconds (approximately 6 feet).
Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.748, 660ft-4.227/166.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.504.

(W) Rodger Brogdon (The Edge GXP) 0.014 6.572 208.23
(L) V. Gaines (Kendall Oil Avenger) 0.032 6.598 209.23

Brogdon is 2 - 1 against Gaines in prior events.
Brogdon was away first and Gaines' car was very loose early in the run. Brogdon won handily with low ET of the weekend and it's a track record (for now).

(W) Ronnie Humphrey (Genuine Hot Rod Hardware G 0.062 6.692 191.13
(L) Ron Krisher (Valvoline GXP) 0.135 7.071 160.06

Humphrey trails Krisher by 41 points for the final Countdown position - more than two rounds. Humphrey and Krisher have each won 2 times against the other in prior events.
Humphrey nailed Krisher to the tree and narrowed the gap to 21 points - still a challenge, but he can still earn points, Krisher cannot.
Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 1,922 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

(W) Allen Johnson (Mopar/J & J Racing Avenger) 0.017 6.589 209.39
(L) Greg Stanfield (Nitrofish GXP) 0.037 6.623 208.39

Johnson is 13 - 7 against Stanfield in prior events. Stanfield is the defending event champion.
Johnson was away first and steadily pulled away for the win. He races Humphrey in round two and will have lane choice.

(W) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.038 6.547 211.03
(L) Mark Martino (Desantis Crane Service GXP) 0.106 6.595 207.78

Anderson has won this event five times so far and was the dominant car in four of the five qualifying sessions. This is the first time Anderson and Martino have faced each other in eliminations.
Martino was late, Anderson was not, then he ran low ET and top speed of the meet - both are track records.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.746, 660ft-4.215/167.53 mph, 1,000ft-5.480. Anderson will have lane choice against Brogdon next round, quickest against second-quickest.

(W) Mike Edwards (Penhall/K&N/Interstae GXP) 0.088 6.555 210.37
(L) Shane Gray (Service Central GXP) 0.018 6.635 207.78

Edwards is 3 - 1 against Gray in prior events, won this event in '98.
Gray had a seven hundredths edge at the green and Edwards still ran him down, running the second-quickest ET of the round.

(W) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.049 6.558 210.73
(L) Buddy Perkinson (Wealth Mgt Strategies/AXA -0.023(R) 13.280 62.32

This is the first time Line and Perkinson have faced each other in eliminations.
Perkinson went red, Line ran the third-quickest time of the round, will have lane choice against Enders in round two.

(W) Vincent Nobile (Mountainview Tire Avenger) 0.048 6.583 209.85
(L) Chris McGaha (Elite Motorsports GXP) 0.022 13.099 64.81

This is not only McGaha's first-ever Indy in Pro Stock, it's his first-ever race in Pro Stock. He is also still in competition in Competition Eliminator. That makes young rookie Nobile the Pro Stock veteran of these two.McGaha's car shook and headed for the wall on the launch and that was a break for Nobile because the usually-quick-leaving Nobile was second off the line. He will not have lane choice when he faces Edwards in round two.
