Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 14th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.566/266.16, Now #1
4:54 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 92 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.18 inches, adjusted altitude 3,566 feet, track temperature 128 degrees.
Haddock loses a cylinder early but stays on the throttle all the way through the lights.
Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 6.542/104.15, Now #3
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 5.195/147.89, Now #2
Creasy gets about 300 feet out and strikes the tires. Bode gets a little further, loses traction and backs off the throttle.
Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 5.840/139.07, Now #3
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 6.827/95.98, Now #5
Lee gets about 200 feet out and goes up in smoke. Troxel smokes the tires at the same time, pedals once, then gives up on the run.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.373/222.88, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.121/156.37, Now #3
Wilkerson gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke. Pedregon gets out of the groove about 800 feet out, makes a move toward the center line and has to back off the throttle.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.394/230.13, Now #2
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.976/159.59, Now #4
Tasca makes it about 500 feet and goes up in smoke. Gray made it about 700 feet and lost traction.
Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.335/278.06, Now #1
Right Lane: John Force No Time, Now #11
Force hits the throttle, moves about two feet and stops. He sits there for a second, the chutes pop out and he idles over to the wall. Word from the track is the throttle cable broke. Arend is able to keep the slicks stuck and takes the top spot for now.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.218/291.32, Now #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.320/243.19, Now #2
Capps makes a good run for the conditions and takes the pole for now. Hagan's car loses power early but he still makes it all the way to the second spot.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.039/216.24, Now #8
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 5.106/235.89, Now #9
Hight and Pedregon both strike the tires early, both get on and off the throttle several times just trying to get in the field.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.976/89.54, Now #16
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.778/178.80, Now #7
Neff gets about 400 feet out, strikes the tires, pedals once and heads for the center line. Beckman loses traction early and gives up on the run quickly.

Force gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. He pedals once then gives up on the run. Schriefer gets about 600 feet out, strikes the tires, pedals once and gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 4.429/272.78, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Lee No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.582/198.23, Was #16
8:34 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.21 inches, adjusted altitude 3,387 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.
Lee did his burnout but was unable to back up. He gets out of the car to allow Schriefer to make his run. Schriefer goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in on the bump.

Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 14th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 4.429/272.78, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Lee No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.582/198.23, Was #16
8:34 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.21 inches, adjusted altitude 3,387 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.
Lee did his burnout but was unable to back up. He gets out of the car to allow Schriefer to make his run. Schriefer goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in on the bump.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.391/103.36, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.037/201.61, Was #18
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 9.479/101.20, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.393/277.43, Was #14
Haddock hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. Gray gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires, then has to give up on the run.
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.158/295.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.301/276.24, Was #13
Force goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the sixth spot.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.194/297.61, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.245/271.41, Was #11
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.386/216.17, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.287/289.94, Was #13
Hight was on a decent run but the candles go out about 800 feet out. Pedregon makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up a spot on the ladder.
Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.577/78.56, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.199/294.31, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.273/283.19, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.246/289.20, Was #12
Arend, still having traction problems, gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. Bode makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.159/298.34, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.165/295.08, Was #7
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.678/123.09, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.182/296.83, Was #9
Wilkerson gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke. Pedregon makes a solid pass but doesn't improve.
Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 7.394/88.98, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.155/285.29, Was #5
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.578/125.31, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.180/298.54, Was #8
Troxel gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and backs off the throttle. Tasca gets a little further and goes up in smoke.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 5.290/137.16, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.139/291.51, Was #4
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.637/181.79, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.114/296.18, Was #2
Beckman gets out of shape about 300 feet out and backs off the throttle. Hagan gets out of the groove, makes a hard move toward the centerline a little past half track, and has to back off the throttle to save the run.
