318/360 SWAP?

318/360 SWAP?
I'm doing a swap from my 74's 318 dart motor. It has had a rod knock ever since i bought it. Thought it was a motor mount and timing issue. So need to swap for a new setup. A friend of mine has a 360 mid 80's ram charger engine assembly that we want to put in.
How can I do this with the least amount of stress. I'm already finding it impossible to find a oil pan that fits for a 360 car engine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not sure if this helps or even applies but I would at least look into it. I did a 360 to 318 motor swap between a 71 dodge charger and a 75 dodge B200. I guess the crank and tourque converter are balanced together (or so I heard) I came across a nasty vibration on both at highway speed. If memory serves correctly I believe you can bolt the 318 oil pan to the 360 motor you may also have to swap pickup tube/screen (from oil pump). I would at least research further

The blocks should be the same so you should be able to use the 318 pan on the 360. I heard that the 360 is externally balanced where the 318 is internally balanced. You may need to change the torque convertor too because of this.
I'm sure that others with more knowledge on this will chime in as well.

Hey Dart74,
I'm sure you have noticed the truck engine you have has a different oil pan? The passenger car oil pan you need is:

Or

Don't forget to use a externally balanced torque converter for your tranny
and if you didn't know, you do need a LA style 360 harmonic balancer for the front of the engine.
Take all that smog stuff off the 80's engine if it has it.
And by the way, if you are stressing out on this swap, you are kind of missing the point of owning a Mopar.
It's supposed to be fun doing this stuff. Make sure you take your time and do it right the 1st time.
Any more questions just ask.....
Good luck and keep us posted wth your project.

the oil pans differ too. cause of the crank size.

hey dart74
i just got done swapping out my 318 to a 360 heres what you need to do first off you need a center sump 360 car oil pan you will also need to change the pickup tube and dip stick the 360 oil pan is 360 only it has the same curved radius around the timing cover as the 318's and 340's but the rear is noticably smaller almost 3/4 to 1 inch difference trust me i know plus have an extra really nice freshly painted 318/340 oil pan to prove for it finding a 360 car pan is a chore usually used ones run anywhere from 50 bucks up mancini racing has a package deal around 120 bucks for pan, dipstick, pick up tube if they ever get them back in stock i was lucky another guyon a different forum gave me one and i purchased my pick up tube from o'rielys auto parts fo around 20 bucks and i cut my dipstick shorter and remarked it you'll also need motor mounts you might be able to get away with your 318 ones but the diver side mounting area is narrow like a 340 mounting area i've heard of people using washers to shim it before then you'll need a new flex plate im assuming your using your 904 trans? you'll need a B&M flex plate part number 10239 i also got this part at o'rieliys for around 120 bucks also make sure you plug the little holes under each exhaust port i cleaned all the carbon out of mine an run a 1/4 20 tap in each one then put a metric allen set screw in them
hope this helps and goodluck
