auto to manual
I want to put a manual tranny in my fifth ave because eventually its going to be used for racing only and i just hate automatics. i was wondering what were the better trannies that would bolt up to the 318 engine and if i could get a different bell to hook it up to the 383 im going to build. im not to familiar with mopar transmissions but i would rather go with a manual than put in the 727.

Are you talking drag racing? You can build the 727 extremely strong for less than a good manual tranny, clutch and swapover in your car. Plus not to mention, the 727 will give you a lot quicker shifts than that of a manual.

I'm not sure how many 5th aves came with manuals or what car you could even get a whole setup up out of to use. That would be easier than piecing together a kit though.

78D200,
I have the same question. Tremac wants 5K for their set up complete, but thats too rich for my blood. R U familiar with manual swaps for a 1968 B Body with a 318?

Putting a big block & 4-speed into a 5th ave. sounds like an absolute nightmare. I'm not saying it can't be done, but man, you are in for a LOT of fabrication work ! Those 833s are damn near dynamite proof, but not well known for their smooth shifting,(I've had a few) A 727 will be FAR more consistent, which is what you need for drag racing!

I would find a B-body that has a manual setup already and take everything for it. Even if it doesn't have the motor and tranny you should be able to still grab the pedals and some links. The rest you can probably get on e-bay with the right discription.

I would never, no matter after how many drinks, go anywhere near that. besides, the 727 will still shift you away faster than a manual.
If your looking for fun, then a manual is the way to go. If your looking for fast shifts and racing, stick with an auto. Thats just my .02 though.

i thought the manual would have been better for racing. i actually found a 1980 lebaron at a junkyard that has a 727 and a 400 in it. it has custom motor mounts that fit on the engine and where the 318 motor mounts are. im gonna go take out the mounts and it looks like that was all that was changed except for an added crossmemeber. thinking of getting a different m body like a diplomat to do this with though and making it into a state police dippy
