Give me some ideas.

Got a funny clicking from my brake pedal...

Heres the story:

While driving my 92 Jetta, I could hear a constant noise coming from the front right of the car, everytime I would tap the brakes, noise would go away.

Okay, needs new pads/rotors. So i pulled the wheel off, caliper off, HMMM... the bottom clip holding the pads on was just gone! Vanished! Fortuantly, I had another one, don't ask me how...

Pads have plenty of meat left on them. I used an old pad/channel locks to push the piston back in.

throw the caliper back on, put the wheel on, torque it, put the MC cap back on, pump the pedal.

Anytime I have the key in the "on" position (not running), and the E-brake on, and i pump the pedal, I can feel/hear a "CLICK" as the pedal gets to the end of the travel.

I didn't bleed the system, and the clicking wasnt there previously.

Any idea what could be causing that?

F#%^$King Volkswagens!

I'm probably just doing something wrong, but hey, thats what a forum is for right?

Thanks.

Noise get louder/softer depending on the turns in the road? Brake clip could just be nothing. Could be the hub bearing. If it is really sloppy, then fully applying the brake could move the wheel on the spindle. Just shooting blanks here, but its a place to start. Got alot of experience with FWD and I've seen some stuff that aint in the manuals. I just had a "howl" that any of you would swear was coming from the right-front, on left banked turns. Turned out it was the LEFT rear wheel bearing!!! The wheel that was supposed to be the MOST unloaded during that turn!

or it could be in the master cyl, itself, have someone pump the brakes as you feel the master with your hand, you should feel it thru the cylinder, kinda had the same thing happend to me the spring and piston/plunger might be going bad,

First off, this "Jetta" you speak of, hmmm sounds kind a foreign to me. Second, why are you pumping the brakes, you say you didnt bleed them and even if you did you dont pump. To reset the caliper to proper position after a pad/rotor replacement you slowly depress the pedal to the floor one time. This is critical especially if you have ABS. Do you have ABS? Not sure when the German cars came out with it. Did you test drive to see if the original problem went away? By the way you described it, it didn't sound brake related but who knows with the Germans I would also look at bearing and CV joints.

It's not ABS, and I didn't open the bleeder. I only flipped the caliper up.

This noise was NOT present before I did this.

Yes, I drove the car and the original noise went away. The noise is NOT present while driving the car. Only when it's not running.

I know what a wheel bearing noise and CV noise sounds like, It's not that. Although, I do need a new passenger side axle, it's been clicking for 5 years. Still is clicking.

The clicking is from the Cv, not the pedal (This clicking anyways).

And no, I'm not worried about it. Car still moves, doesn't need to be replaced.

Went out to try and duplicate the noise, nothing.

Pedal feels as it did before. Tried it in all sorts of combinations, nothing.

Guess i'll just have to keep an eye out on it and see if anything happens.

I HATE it when that happens! Somehow it just fixes itself....right. You know that problem is still there just waiting to cause a failure at the most inconvenient time......
