I just did this. My order is as follows. Pulled the plugs and squirted wd-40 in all the cylinders. Pulled the radiator and this allowed me access to the crank shaft bolt. I turned her very slowly with plugs back in her. It was hard at first, but loosened after a few days. Crank her a few turns each day and re-apply lub of choice. She should feel easier as the days go on. I replaced all the hoses and re-cored the radiator. Replaced the gas tank and sending unit, plugs, wires, all filters..etc . When I opened the gas tank for the first time it stunk of turpentine (bad gas). Replaced thermostat. Instead of priming the oil pump the I pulled the main ignition plug from the coil and cranked her for about a minute. That should pre-lube things without the fear of her firing over early. She smoked and kicked for about 5 minutes but she started and runs great. Good luck...

well tonight i found the same thing basically as that marvel. and i blasted the cylinders and i was curious about turning it and the crank bolt was like tighting up and the crank didnt turn so i dont know. might try just turnin it over by just putting a battery in it and just hit the start button.

oh and my dad designed the headers on 1 side so dumb you cant get 1 spark plug out so ima try to figure out what to do about it

the problem with cranking the engine with the starter, is that if any of the valves are rusted, it'll just bend the push rods and possibly damage the lifters

pulling the head and taking the valve off by hand is one option
or, pour oil directly onto the valve, and then try to turn

but if it bends a rod, you might damage the cam and lifter

hey 63 im looking for your other post but if its all you are doing is starting it up after a long sit for one do not spray wd40 in it and use marvel like 78 says and to get it going first off put like valvoline 10-30 in it to begin with and just start that puppy , it will oil itself just dont rev it up to much but keep it to about 1000-1500 rpms for a few min' and you will be fine and after you have run it for awhile change the oil again and use a little heaver weight oil like hm 10-40 valvoline and drive the crap out of it .... ill keep looking for your other post but if all your doing is starting it just start it .... i also recomend using like lucas HD oil stabilizer with the second oil change ---- go ahead and drive it
