Swapping Tranny...
i was thinking of swapping trannys, i have 440 engine (RV) and i have a 727 torqueflite on a 71 400 block, is it possible to take the 727 and put it on the 440?? should fit right?? and is it possible to do it myself? how difficult is it?

Hey Doc correct me if I am wrong but isn't the way the trans is balanced differently between the two. I think one is external and the other is internally balanced? Just something I heard while I was getting answers to my questions about my 400 and 440.
Also the converter isn't difficult to swap, you just have to unbolt it from the flexplate.

right, the trans i have on the 440 is good, the only thing its too short to mount up where the original transmission mount holds it up, cuz the torqueflite transmission is longer and the one on the 440 is short....if i leave the 440 one on there, im gonna have to get a new driveshaft.......whooh!

Hey 71, are the three lines the same size? I can take a look at my setup in the car to see whats up with my 400 and 727, and do a quick look at the other trans for the 440 and let you know, but won't be able to look until later today.

hey 71 im guessing yer kinda new at this did you make sure the converter was fully in before you mounted it(converter will make acouple of clicks as you turn and kinda lift up on the converter on the shaft then when attaching it to the the flex plate on the motor there will be a space inbetween the too but when you bolt it up it will pull together and still be okay and replaced the frt seal aint nothin worse than doin all that work then it leaks or dont even go asfar as the t. lines goe you should only have two you can take the lines that you have and splice them together in order to make trans lines that go to the rad. you'll need some compression fittings a pipe cutter and some sand paper 120 grit or alittle higher so that the fittings will seal get some line wrenches so you can tighten and loosen this stuff without damaging it kinda lost on the 3rd trans line unless you are refering to the speedo cable?

71 ... ef makes a good point .... make sure the converter is engaged into the pump before install. You can check by being able to spin the converter when the trans is bolted-UP to the engine. If the converter hub is not properly engaged into the pump ...it will not spin.
