swapping a cam

how hard of a job is it to put a new cam in a 318. ive never messed with the cam or valves before and was just wondering. i plan on putting a 360 2bbl cam in my fifth ave and i also have ported 302 heads and hopefully soon ill have a 4bbl carburetor if i can make up my mind. or ill just have a bigger 2bbl that i already have on a 4bbl intake manifold.

Its not that hard. Is the cam new or used? You might want to install new bearings depending on how the old cam looks and do something about the lifters.

You can do it in the car but it is way easier with the motor out of it.

roller cam gives a little more power (less friction)
you might need new push rods

they do make a roller cam setup for it however, itll be exspensive, you need to get adj. pushrods, with the girdles, they started putting rolers in the yorkers after 86. to change the cam you can pull the radiator, then pass the cam form the front of the block back, itll save alot of time and effort to pull the motor, i recomend that you put new cam bearings in ither way, a new cam on old bearings w/ wear spells wiped cam journals early on.
