1964 Plymouth Fury - conveying power steering to manual??

Hello again my Mopar friends...

My 440 is out of my fury for a rebuild, and while it is out, I want to convert it over to manual steering.

Any advice? Any instruction? Should be an easy job while the engine is out...

Are my old (working perfectly) power steering parts worth anything?

Looking forward to input.

Mike

I would think it has value just by virtue of age of the parts. Don't get rid of them until after your conversion though in case things go south for you. I installed a manual box from Firm Feel for a buddy and it worked out really well. I liked the fact that this company had every part on hand to do the conversion rather than looking all over the web for, say, a proper sized pitman arm. Quality seemed "top drawer" and it fit like a glove. They seem to know their stuff and are very helpful with online tech support.

New is the way to go. Used boxes are usually worn out....

Sad part is that my box and steering are GREAT... nice and tight. But I need to go lighter and make room. My TTI headers are so close to it. I figure with this I'll shed 30 lbs of crap, along with all the other stuff Im changing... (heads, aluminum water pump housing, etc...) She's on a diet...

A 64 on a diet..... You got your work cut out for you.... Might be better to just build a 588 Motor....
Just funning with you

Yes...

It is heavy... But I should be able to shed at least 100 lbs off the front with aluminum heads, aluminum water pump housing and losing the power steering...

Plus moving my battery to the trunk...

Have you thought about maybe a rack and pinion? or a swap to something like a Magnumforce Front Suspension?
