1974 dodge 200 4x4

Hello, new member here with a new to me 1974 dodge power wagon 4x4. I don’t know much about it. I was able to get it running after trailering it home but only by putting fuel in carb and it would run for about a minute in throttle and at idle and then die off and suck air like it was starving for fuel. I was told it had been sitting for 5 years. The fuel pump is making noise at least but truck is not getting fuel as it should. Any thoughts on whether to just start at tank and run new lines and put a new pump and filter on or just try a new pump and filter.

Also, can anyone confirm if this is a 318 or 360? Automatic transmission. Thanks for any feedback and help. I couldn’t believe it ran.

If your lucky and have the original hood there would have been a decal with information on it, motor, transmission, axle gearing etc..

Thanks for the reply. There is a couple of plates on the door and back of cab but I can’t read any of it. I know it has Dana 60 rear with 4.10. I have new filter and pump and hose. Will see where that gets me.

Pull and clean the fuel tank.
Install new hoses
Install a new fuel filter.
Install a new fuel pump. Or at least move the electric pump back as close to the fuel tank as possible. Electric Pumps hate to suck very far. But love to push fuel
Look on the side of the engine block... Should have a 318 340 or 360 in the casting...

Now if you just want to hear it run for awhile.. Just put the inlet side hose of the electric fuel pump into a gas can and run it... Keep the gas can away from a flame source.

Nice truck, bad mechanic! Yikes!

First off you will have to drop the gas tank and clean it out. Flush ou the fuel line along frame. Put the mechanical pump back in, toss that hokey set up electric pump. Rebuild the carb and put on new 5/16" fuel line and 8-10 hose clamps and you are done...clean fuel system!
For engine id I crawl under with a flashlight and look at block sides. First you will see the 7 digit part number. Then the displacement. Then the casting reference. Other side will have date the block was casted. Behind your power steering pump are numbers stamped in to block just under the head.
For trans there is a series of numbers stamped just above pan on rail. Transfer case has a blue metal plate with date and t-case info just up and to the right of the front driveshaft output. You will know what you got if you write it all down wether it is original or not.
