2019 Ram 5.7 Hemi Rev Limit? Damage?
2019 Ram 5.7 Hemi Rev Limit? Damage?
Today I was driving my 19 Ram 1500 Hemi with 3.92 gears and the Anti Spin Diff. I was at a stop light and was getting ready to pass somebody when I noticed my rpms were at 6,000 rpm. I floored it from the light but I accidentally put the gear limit to first gear, probably not even thinking pressed it. I'm very scared because I baby my truck and to think something broke on it has me terrified. My paranoia has me thinking Im hearing noises and that the truck feels sluggish but then again I'm probably just overthinking it. Anyone know rev limit/ when damage occurs?
Hard to know just from reading about it.
Your big concern would be bending a push rod within the valvetrain. Your truck should have Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to protect it and extend your powerband at wide open throttle. But, that doesn't make it bullet proof.
Any hemi engine that hasn't been running long enough to warm up oil and gain the benefits of proper pressure and flow through the push rods is vulnerable to damage at higher revs.
Here is an example of what tap (from a bent push rod) sounds like.

I think your ok... Drive it a few more miles... see is the ticking gets any louder.. Is the check engine light on??.. If no Then the truck didnt set the "Rev Limit Met code"
Check the oil level and make sure it is up to snuff..... If you still feel off about how it is running.... Shoot us a Video so we can help....
