318 in need of power
#4
well, stat with the intake
edelbrock is best for mopars
then move onto a cam that'll give you some low end power to move that car
then onto heads
try PM'ing Valcam
he just finish building a very powerful 318

the old 318 really needs some compression
but if its just cheap bolt on power that's easy .
new petrol , oil filter & air filter & oil change , new spark plugs , hi voltage coil , replace leads if they look old & dirty & any cracks . fuel system cleaner / carby cleaner . start there .

if you want to go a bit deeper into it .
find 2nd hand extractors / headers & free flowing mufflers it will sound better also . talk to an exhaust shop & plumb up your breather tubes from your tappet covers to your extractor collectors . that will give you more ring seal & better compression over 3000 rpm = more power .
look out for a 2nd hand dual plane alloy manifold & carby spacer , the one with 4 holes might help you .
i like msd 6al or other ignition boosters you may as well burn the air fuel mix properly . on that note do you have a electronic dizy ? if not they will help . there are some cheap dizy - ignition kits around these days .
HEADS a good clean , fresh valve job , new valve stem seals , new .020'' head gaskets , 360 aftermarket inlet valve with flat faced valve for more flow & more compression . or back cut std valves & bowl port job & deshroud you valves .
power is in your heads that's where you spend your money !!
i don't know how much money your thinking of spending ? if you on a very tight budget then its prolly just one thing at a time . if moneys not a problem a crate 360 might be the go . if you have money & really love your 318 well the sky's the limit & then it gets really fun .
when it comes to buying a cam make shore you buy one that suits your combination . buy a cam that suits your heads , compression & carb & what you'll be doing with it .
