Getting ready to tackle this project. Parts store recommended Clevite Part number 216-1206, positive type seals for the valve guides. Is this better than OEM? This one uses same seal for both intake and exhaust valves. I have read that certain positive type seals require machining. Appreciate any and all recommendations on this project. Will be doing job with heads on the engine. Thanks.

 

After some research I determined that the seals I had required machining of the valve guides. So i decided to go with the Fel Pro OE seals. I plan to dive into the project tonight. This is my second Ram, the first was an 87 6 cylinder which was a rugged engine but the body and chassis were not in good enough shape to restore. This one has 78000 orig miles. the body is cherry, interior great, so I think i am going to make a project out of this one. It is the W-150.

 

finished job this weekend. Pretty tough to get to back two cylinders. Exhaust valve seals were completely deteriorated. Smoking is gone.
