Actually, it will fit.

I'm putting a 413 thats been machined to a 426 in my Dart. It'll work, and it's a good motor to go with.

Now, if you don't already have the 413...I'd go with a 383 or 440. They are more easier to find.

I would go with the 318 and build it to your liking and for free its a steal as them motors will last a life time if cared for and since its going to be a cruizer i would put a nice intake manifold and a good carb and some headers and just drive the crap out of it and have fun with it

X2

I would also go with the 318 and tranny, especially if they are in good working order. You can always find yourself a 360 or 340 to build up and swap in later.

i was in your boat this time last year

mate i didn't even mean to get into building cars . i walked into a mopar swapmeet to buy a $10 mopar sticker and walked out with my 318 vf ute . and i wasted thousands buy not knowing what 2 do . if i was 2 do it all again . this is for a best bang 4 buck . 383 ,727, 2800-3000 stall , 440 source stealth heads , refresh bottem end if need be , single plane manifold , arp rod bolts , 700-750 carb . .485 - .509 th lift cam with leased duration for that lift . shumacer engine mount kit . deep 7qt oil pan & pick up & windage tray , deep trans pan , twin 3 inch exhaust & extractors , electronic ign & msd 6al & baster coil . just use whatever diff you have for now . mate you could not go wrong it would cost exactly the same as a 318 but a 318 wouldn't go anywhere near as good . it has big block torque & big block's are big block durabale . then that sound is a sound of its own . if you did go the 318 way you would be kicking your self in 6 months time . then you could always up grade latter . a engine like this whould have to be getting around 450 + hp . it would last for ever & theres sombody giving away a 383 on our clasifides . from what i have read there are 383s everywhere and cheap over there there smaller & lighter than r/b . ok read and enjoy sorry to the small block guy's big block or nothing

You never know how something will turn out til you are done and figure out that you want it another way. You live and learn. Thats what life is all about.

ps

if its a cruiser i'd still go a 383 stock to mild . still costs the same . what engine is in it now ? torque . forged crank short strong rods . & slowly gather bits & peices for down the track . we have this arument all the time , espesaly with our hemi six cylinder fans . sure they go hard ( can easly get 270 - 340 hp up too 400 hp + ) but thats it . its ruff to drive big stall converters ect ect . my mate spent 20k plus on his .080 th over 265 cid hemi six it could make 380 -410 hp but he is broke still not finished and taken about 4 years . i spent about 35k on my whole car but wasted at leased 5-8 k . because i didn't know what or where i was going . i started buying bits 4 a 318 , then found a 440 long motor home motor . then found my 383 that was rebuilt for $ 3500 , herd it running with open headers how could i not buy it . ( it was cheaper than the parts for the 440 ) the list goes on and on i bought extrators to suit for 1 k ( yeah maybe a left hand drive dart ) but had too makem fit then bash the pipes to fit the spark plug leads caps . another $ 900 for 2 1/2 in mandrel bent pipes , which are holding me back & now the angled plugs for my indy heads run straight into the pipes . talk to people on here they have been there and done that do it once . it might take a little more work & i bit of holding out & saving but it will be all worth while in the end cuase cars are money pits in the end . i gota go good luck cya

That would be sweet if you could get both of them motors and like 78 said put the 318 in and take your time and build up the 360 to your liking, that way you have a car to drive now and a engine you can build and swap in when you have it the way you want it
