70 TA engine mount problems
Hi Thank You for reading I will try to explain. My engine has factory exhaust manifolds, the passenger side manifold is hitting the inside fenderwell, if that makes since. I took car to a well known old mopar garage and he couldn't align the front end it's like something is bent he can't figure it out he replaced the motor mounts it didn't work. So he nstalled adjustable upper control arms which gave him the adjustment to alighn. Could the K member be bent or can it be adjusted. I am lost here. When I bought car it had a radical engine in it he was using for drag racing wasn't tubed. Any ideas please let me know. Thanks

When I was building my AAR many years ago, I believe I found there is a variety of "engine side" mount flanges/pieces on different models and displacements (318/340/360). It took me a while to get the correct pieces to get my engine in the correct location.

Go to this page and you will find Chassis measurements for reference.

Only other thing I can think of if the K member is aftermarket maybe the motor mounts are off. I measured the wheel base both side it's the same length f4ame rails seeem to be what's listed hard to get a accurate measurement with engine in it. I am at a loss.

K frames cannot be adjusted......does the car show any signs of being wrecked? Engine mount brackets are different for the smaller small blocks vs the bigger ones. 273/318 are the same but 340 are different on the driver side and match up with the 360 mounts. It ain't much of a difference and you can stack a few washers or use a spacer with the 318 brackets on the 340/360 and even if you do that, the stock exhaust manifolds still shouldn't touch the shock tower. Measure across from shock mount to shock mount or as close as you can get to them and post what it is. Fender flange mounts will also give you a tell tale measurement. You can do all the frame measurements and they can be all good but if the upper shock mount/A arm attachment points are pushed in, you won't find the problem by measuring the frame. I've had a couple of cars that had the upper inner fenders pushed in from a side impact enough that affected it like this. Sometimes you can see it if you look close and know what you are looking at and sometimes it's so subtle, you can't see it. It doesn't take much to bend things to where it's messed up. Another option is take it to a frame shop that still knows how to work on our old stuff. Most alignment shops do not have the proper tooling to check anything but alignment specs....even the old Mopar garages that do alignment work do not.
