I picked up a 1972 318 engine from a Satellite with 41,000 miles on it and would like to put it into my '67 Fury which has a tired 318. The newer engine came with a 904 trans but I would like to use the existing 727 that is in the Fury. Is that possible, in other words, will they go together? If so, I would use the 727 converter and flex-plate. thanks for any info here.

the only issue is that the '72 mill might have substantially less power. the late sixties were good for the 318 but the seventies did it quite ugly. I'm not sure the output by '72, but i'm willing to bet it was quite a bit lower. still, it will definitely work!

hints: DO replace ALL the soft plugs with brass soft plugs. and be sure the linemen pins are in the engine. should be 2 of them. i think 1/2 dia. DO use anti-size compound on ALL threads on the exthaust system. and take the ext bolts to 70-80 % of full torque first time. then after 5-6 full heat cycles take it to full torque. but if it leeks take to full torque. IMHO.

The biggest differences in 72 can still be "tuned out," different carb, get rid of EGR, and recurve the distributor. A bit hotter cam will help, as will dual exhaust.

I just got done pulling an (except for cam, intake and headers) a bone stock 70's 318 out of the Dart and it had "plenty" of snot.

Thanks to all for your responses. I will definitely replace all of the freeze plugs. Do you use any type of sealer on them or just install them dry?
As far as the loss of horsepower goes, I am 72 and really not looking to smoke any tires LOL. The 318 in the car now runs okay but is tired (like the driver). Thank you again.

ooohhhh, okay lol! Well then, yes, the bare bones of it is that the 318 will stab right in with no issues. Well, you know what i mean.
