I have an 88 dakota that I would like to install a 383 in for street driving but ive been told with all the s10 sbc swaps that it was now illegal to do so, is this true?

Every state is different. Some you can swap in whatever you want. Other's you can only swap in the same size motor of the year that make and model was built in or new due to emission laws.

Best thing to do is call up your state's department that handles the inspection laws and ask them.
