Considering buying a 1964 Dodge 880

I'm considering buying a 1964 dodge 880. Its not the custom but just a plain ole 880. I don't know much about mopar and would like some advice. Its a 4 door, its got a 361 big block, 57000 miles, all original never been painted or had any body work. The body is solid, a few places with surface rust. Its been sitting in a barn for a couple years but started regularly, it used to be a daily driver. He said he would take $1350 for the car.

1. Is the 361 a good engine?
2. Are these cars prone to any problems?
3. Are parts hard to find?
4. Does the price sounds right?

I am not an expert, but I would say for a running driving survivor car, you cannot get hurt for $1350. It may be that parts are difficult to find or get, and it is a 4 door, but still.....I think it looks really good, and if it makes you happy.....go for it!

There are other folks on the forum that will know more about this body style.

I just want something to cruise around in, something that sounds good, and is still quick, Ideally I would love a 2 door car, but you can't touch a decent running, 2 door with a good body for anywhere near $1350. I browse craigslist daily and the prices people ask are astronomical. So my thinking was to find a decent older 4 door and do the same to it. I didn't realize how big this car was though, until I saw it in person. This is a true boat!

it sounds like a good price
make sure there is no major rust spots
the 361 to the for-runner to the 383
does it run?

I ended up getting the car, it does run, shifts fine. I guess it used to be this guys daily driver, and he stopped driving it, probably due to MPG's. As far as I could tell from looking at the engine while running, it just needs new valve cover gaskets. They body is solid on it, it does have some minor surface rust areas on it. I think most of them would come out with wet sanding or clay barring it. The wheels and tires he had on it, didn't come with it, so he put the original wheels on it, and the tires are old. I am thinking to get this thing road worthy it needs an oil change and new tires. I will probably do a tune up while I'm at it. I hit the exhaust backing off the trailer, so I'm gonna have to put a new one on soon too. It has the original keys, owners manuals, and window sticker. I might clean her up and sell her, but I think I wanna drive this boat around for a while!

For a running, driving, solid car, you got it for a decent price. Those cars are by no means worth a lot, but you will have a great time in it just cruising.

I have the 361 in my '66 Coronet convertible and t seems to be an excellent engine. It should have adequate power for your 880.

Stock manifolds, duals, 2"d. pipes, xerator turbo mufflers. What I'm saying is it's no 440 but it's still pretty fast. Your car is a little heavier but it should still be pretty fast with that engine.

Thanks for all the positive comments! I almost have her road worthy, which didn't take too much, master cylinder, fresh fluids, tune up...the usual stuff. Its mostly small annoying things that need to be fixed. The power steering pump leaks and seems to be missing a bracket, I can't get the dash lights to work. This week I hope to have the new tires put on, and my new exhaust put on. I think I will drive it, like it is this summer, and hopefully this fall and next spring start taking the trim off and get the body prepped to paint. I am excited to have something to cruise in. Again thanks for all the info, and I'm sure I'll be tapping into all of your knowledge as I dig deeper into the car

Scott, even though this thread has not been active for a couple of years now, I just wanted to say, "thank you" for posting it. I needed to collect as much information about a Dodge 880 as I could and simply googled "1964 Dodge 880". This thread was the fourth selection in the search. I recently purchased a 1964 Dodge 880 Anniversary Edition with my brother-in-law for $1,000 including towing. It didn't start, run, or drive and we knew we were rolling the dice at that price. After doing all the basics (spark plugs, lines, belts, battery, fluids, ect, ect...) she fired up, ran, and drove in the driveway. That is currently were we are as of now. I hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread and riding off your coat tails. I'd like to pick your brain on your Dodge 880's restoration journey if that's okay with you. Also, thanks to you I discovered this forum. Thank you.

my dad bought a new 1964 880 stationwagon , with a roof rack, 9 pas. had it till we bought a new 1966 charger. the 880 has the same frame as a chrysler, so you have a lot of parts available. check to see if it has a factory external trans filter. i think it was only used from 62 to 64, i think
