Here's one ya can try also, You know you can buy that flexible magnetic tape. wrap a strip of it around your oil filter. This will magnetize the oil filter and catch any small metal frags that might be in your oil system and when you change your oil just put the mag tape on the new filter.
Space is the limiting factor. The newer engine bays don't have room for the bigger filters. and be careful if it hangs down and it hits something, what have you gained? The engineers that design these cars get paid millions of dollars a year. I'm not going to try to out guess them. If the bigger filter would fit and was a better choice I don't doubt they would have used it. If on the other hand you are re-deigning a car from the ground up, then use your best choice.
never understood why engineers get paid so much when they make you remove washer resivor and wheel well just to change battery. heck just last night I was reading how to change oil in wife's new van, you have to put left hand on nose and right hand on left ear, turn around 3 times then get under van and open 4 access panels to get to filter. I aree with 66, give me something old. one I can stand between fender and motor to work on it!!
Oh ok, that looks like a good idea, and I assume that goes on the end? And the magnetic tape wraps around?
I still have the radiator and fan out, and find myself standing there quite a bit scratching my head trying to figure out what easily accessible part goes on next.
