Factory undercoating?

So working away on my rear end I noticed that the "factory undercoating" on my 68 Newport is cracking and peelin off. I don't have time or money for sandblasting so I'm thinking get in there with a brush and scrub away. Whatever falls off is fine ad then I'll use a spray in undercoating.

Is this a terrible idea or what other suggestions does everyone have.

Thanks,

Gary

That's a great idea, protect what you have. After scrubbing it, I'd wash/clean the area, let it dry and then hit it what an undercoating.

I had my Charger blasted and found that it did very little removing the undercoat. I found by using an air hammer with a chisel head you could pop most of it off. Just be very easy, Hold the chisel parallel to the body. Just a light squeeze of the trigger. The Under coat flakes off and leaves the body undamaged. A wire brush wheel on a grinder also does a good job but removes a lot of the paint around and under the undercoat.
