Question fuel pump

i pulled my dipstick and it smells like gas. Im thinking it my fuel pump leaking into my crankcase and it flooded it out and thats what caused my car to stall and not start again. Does this sound right?

you can always pull the fuel pump or timing cover and investigate. Either way, it looks like you'll be tearing into the motor.

i was thinking this because someone told me that the pumps diagraphram could be bad and leak gas into the crankcase.

im gonna change out the pump tommorow because the carb i have on the car is new and i dont think its that because when i had it running it was running real good. The car was sitting for 4 years with gas in it before i got it so im pretty sure the pump needs replaced.

is the 4 year old gas still in the car?
unless is was stored with a stabilizer, i'd get rid of the gas

X2 on the old gas.

If there was any gas in the carb over those 4 years, it could have leaked down through the intake, heads and rings into the oil Very unlikely, I know). Have you had the car running before you smelled gas in the oil?

You may have pumped shellac or dried out gas from the pump itself or the lines into the new carb and stuck a float ?

it not from the exhaust, it was up in the engine area, i didnt see exactly where it came from because i was in the car. I just hope nothing is messed up. Im thinking its the timing chain now, how it just died on me and i know for sure its getting gas and spark.

did you replace the timing chain and gears?
if not, its probably old and sagging, which would cause it to slip
