hemi question
#2
Anything is possible with enough money. Since the Hemi was available from the factory it should be doable. But in the long run it would probably be cheaper to sell your truck and find one all ready equipped with a Hemi.
You would need motor, rad, motor mounts, brackets, exhaust, computer, maybe trans ?, and all the little items usually needed.
If you have access to a wrecked truck for cheap ?? DO it

Worth it? Sure.. Money wise? Hm...... If your truck is paid off and you want the hemi but consider this..
No matter what you do it will be significantly cheaper to find the same make and model as you have and use the funds dedicated to do the swap and make the trade to that vehicle. Why do I say this? Because if you find a wrecked truck with a hemi you will have to purchase the entire truck. Hemi engines without controller in good condition in long block form under 100k miles will cost 2500. I called to check for you. So doing this as a part by part item will be cost prohibitive. Thats why aftermarket swaps aren't popular yet.
You need transmission, all electrical harnesses, pcm, fuse box (s), pcm reprograming (possibly), throttle body, injectors, rails, fuel pump, linkage, air cleaner, cruise control buttons, cruise linkage and assembly, exhaust, cross member, and much more... A salvaged truck with all these parts will prob cost 5500 minimum. That would be the cheapest route.
Even if the labor was free you wont be able to use everything from the donor. Items will need replacing.
So lets say 6500 with no labor costs. Now price the 2009 5.7 in same configuration as your current truck. That 6500 greatly exceeds the difference in price.

These are CAN bus vehicles. VIN specific on options and configurations. You'll need almost everything from the donor as everyone has said, including the transmission. The TIPM is most critical. It holds the vehicle config info. If you use it from the donor and don't include all the options, or have options it does not have, it will forever code, looking for the missing modules. Some can be removed or programmed with the Witech, others require CDA, which is engineering software. IMO it's not worth it unless you can do everything yourself and your time isn't worth much.
That being said, my shop has done Wrangler Hemi conversions and other late model to late model CAN conversions (most shops that do this usually stick to the much easier, earlier model PCI bus stuff). It's not cheap.
