Hey guys a while ago I posted a thread on how far to stroke out a 360. And I was kind of leaning towards that or just building my 318. As much money as either one of those will cost me I can just buy a late model hemi! lol And won't have to do any modifications, either the 5.7 or 6.1 already has more than enough power, also I found a place that sales carbureted intakes for either one. I have located a few 5.7's average price for them is about $1,500.00 to $2,000.00. I have not been able to locate a 6.1 yet though, although that is what I would prefer. The intake I found is $599.00. I also found a place online that sales motor mounts for E body late model hemi swaps, I couldnt find a price however. I would probably be better off just fabricating my own. I also read that a 727 should bolt right up to either the 5.7 or 6.1. I thought about this before but I am not genius when it comes to all the new fuel injected and computer sensor BS so I kind of just blew that idea off. But with that carbureted intake it should spare me from all of that hell.

i believe there are 2 different 727's one for small block one for big block. since you have a 318, you have the smallblock one, i dont think it has the same bolt pattern.

and they also make adaptors so you can run a distributor.

You know who makes them? I would love to do that, cause the kit I was looking at come with an engine controller that controlled the ignition. But the only problem is if you ever want to switch cams you gotta send it back to them to have them reprogram it for you, and they charge 75.00. A kit without the cam cost about 1,500. Thats just for the intake, carb, and engine controller. The kit with the came is $2,120. That comes with intake, carb, cam, and valve springs, and an engine controller programmed for the cam. For the distributor adaptor, how does it work with the cam? do they also happen to sell aftermarket cams with the gears for a distributor on them? The $599.00 was just for the intake I did some more looking last night and found the whole kit.

I really have no clue, on that one. When I start shopping I'm going to try to find a 5 speed charger or challenger with a 6.1 and pull the motor and tranny. I would much rather do that.

I think there is a guy local to me that has a 6.1L for sale. New England area so I am sure that shipping would kill the deal.

you know im not sure who makes them but they are advertised in all the mopar mags

There are two automatic trannies for the SB motors, one is a 904 and the other is the 727. You can find the long tailshaft housing 727s in 2wd trucks. In the cars, they can be either or.

why would you want to carb. the new hemi's?

Well for one I have NO idea how to hook up a fuel injected system, or the computer, 2 I hate having all the sensors and crap ie. O2 sensors, throttle position sensor etc etc. Cause I a not good at workin on that crap, and a carbureted motor sounds much better in my opinion.

Just found my build sheet by the way, my car has a 904... or its supposed to anyways.

They both have flowmasters on them I'm not sure which series the challenger has though. But still I just love the sound of a carbureted motor.

they both sound tinnie (tin-e) to me i like a deep rumble.not high pitched.
