does anyone know how many turns the screws on the carb should be turned out? Timing is good. maybe its getting too much gas because it tries to fire but wont stay running

i adjusted carb and still no luck, this is really making me mad!! It has spark, and fuel and its timed right so it should be firing up. What could mess up while i am slowly moving in the car and just cause it to die??? Where are some common places that wires come loose or a ground goes bad because im thinking how it just died with no weird sounds, it just felt like you turned the ignition off, a wire somewhere is messed up.

Man I gotta tell ya I am lost, wish I was there to see whats up, but Barret Jackson just started so I gotta fly, the big screen's calling my name.
I can't think of what it would be if you have spark, gas and it's timing is on.

would the size of the carb gasket make it die? idk im just thinking of everything, When i installed the new carb it came with a new gasket and it was thin and the old gasket was really thick and made the carb sit higher up.

sgp check to make sure your wires are in the right spot as this can only be the only thing else wrong and are you sure you have the right plug and gaps on them and did you try starting fluid yet but sounds like the wires and maybe a vacuum leak that is to strong to let it start
1.check wires
2.check #1 plug wire
3.check for vacuum leak
4.check plugs

those are the only things i can see being wrong if you are getting fuel to the plugs......when # 1 cylinder is up make sure the rotor is pointing to the # 1 on the cap

the gasket wouldnt affect it
to bring it to tdc, crank the engine until the timing mark is at 0

It's when you have what some people call a wash out, un-burnt gas is left in the cylinder and it runs down the walls and into your oil pan removing oil from your cylinder wall...not good. It also thins out the oil in your pan...not good, this condition can toast your motor.

could it be that my fuel pump is messed up and flooding out the engine thats why it died and wont start?

You might have a float stuck on your carb letting too much gas into your engine causing the flooding condition. My suggestion is fix the fuel situation and then change your oil.

<~~ Was just thinking the same thing as Polardude. Float sticking, allowing it to flood out and die, extra fuel going into the oil. That'll wet your plugs and make it hard to start, and could also let it start and then die out.

When you're trying to find out which cylinder is number one to set your timing and firing order, a good rule of thumb is that which ever bank has the farthest forward cylinder also has number one as the front most cylinder.
