Question on car titles

does anyone know can i just file for a lost title even if i dont own the car because i know of two older dodge cars that are abandon and the owner has been hiding from the state for 10 years now and the cars have been sitting on a piece of property north of me behind a old worn down house that the guy owns but he hasnt been there in like 15 years

I don't know what state you reside in, but generally there needs to be some proof of ownership, but I would say give it a shot. Next question, why do you want the to title them?

It is obvious to me that you do NOT have legal, ethical, or moral claim to these cars, and since you don't seem to be a bill collector, you don't have legitimate financial claim on them, either.

Just because someone leaves something lying around, does not mean that some kid can come along and claim it.

I am in Michigan The only reason i would title them is so that i could have owner ship so that i could sell them to someone who could restore them instead of letting them rust ill have to look into getting ownership

what if the guy shows up after you "sell" his cars and he comes looking for you to charge you with theft? the best thing to do is track the owner down and see if they're for sale.

I would have to say the same thing, if you are going to profit on something you found (doesn't belong to you) you should ask the owner, even if no one has seen him in 10 years.

In texas, you can file for a bonded title. This is where you get an appraiser to appraise it and then pay to get the title based on how much they are appraised. You have the bonded title for 2 years then you get a normal one. If someone claims the cars in those two years then the pay you the money that you paid for the registration and they get the cars.

its funny you should mention something like this. Near my house theres a lot with a 69 roadrunner, a 73 satellite and an 85 camaro. none of them ever move.
Some of them have been there longer than others, but one thing is known to be true.
Touch any of them and you'll have more people kicking the crap out of you than you've ever thought of.
