It depends what Ign system you running , but with MSD for example needs to have both the Blue & brown wires tied together or the MSD is not powered when you turn the key to start , the factory system doesn't need to be tied together

Well the factory system IS tied together in a way

Mopar systems have 3 separate contacts having to do with the engine in the ignition switch.

1--"Ignition run" or "IGN 1" traditionally dark blue, goes to the instrument cluster for the gauges and warning lamps, and through the bulkhead to power the ignition and regulator, and alternator field on 70/ later cars, electric choke if used. HOT ONLY in "run."

2--"Bypass", or "IGN 2" traditionally brown goes from a contact in the switch, through the bulkhead and (factory) to the coil+ side of the ballast resistor. Feeds good hot juice to ignition during "start."

3--"Start" hot only in "start" traditionally yellow, goes from a separate contact on the switch, through the bulkhead, and to one of the "push on" terminals of the start relay

BASICALLY when you tie the "run" and "bypass" (blue and brown) together, you are simply eliminating the coil resistor.
