WHAT TO DO WITH MY DAKOTA R/T?

I'm just in the thinkin' about it stage right now but some time in the next year I want to give my 01 Dakota R/T a boost in hp and I'd like to start collecting parts. Trouble is I don't know were to start. I know zero about fuel injection/computor engines. I'd like 350-375 horsepower, and keep or modify the stock fuel injection and computor. I'm thinking a cam/ head change but don't want to touch the rotating assembly. Is this realistic and were should I start? A turbo or procharger is definatly an option.

What should I do to the tranny that wouldn't mess up the electronics?

A supercharger is the way to go. You'll need to have some other motor work done too and have the computer retuned for it but it will be worth it. If you have a 5-speed in there now, get a very good clutch (centerforce duel friction comes to mind). If it's an automatic, then you will want to change out the torque convertor and have the tranny built up some.

Vortech makes a easy bolt on supercharger just for the R/T Dakota.

Belive me I've thought of it, but the truck only has 45,000 miles on it and being a R/T I don't want to get away from what it is. I love blowing the doors of off the new Ram Hemis. It really pisses them off.

Will the stock rotating assembly take a supercharger or will I need to upgrade it?

There use to be a guy around the forum that posted some videos of the work that he did with turbos and superchargers. I'd talk to him..... if you can find him. Do a search for it to find him.

Here's a couple of ideas I found on another site in response to the same question I asked.

headers $425
RT 1.92 heads $1300
Crower cam $280
Crower 1.7s $575 (with rev kit)
JP double roller chain $80.00
Mopar 2400 stall $175
MT 26" slicks $350
15x8" rims $100
M1 intake $400
F&B TB $370
MSD6al $225
------------------------
$4055 (add a $350 cat back exhaust)
$4405
(add custom PCM flash to your stock PCM)
$450
$4855
With a 100 shot... This combo got my '00 RC
down to a 12.62 @ 108.5 mph

went 13.60 with the following mods:
Vortech SQ Supercharger $3,100.00
Mopar Performance PCM 305.00
Mopar Headers 500.00
Borla Exhaust 2.5" Univ Kit 525.00

TOTAL $4,430.

Two different ideas with similar results and costs. Both guys used the stock rotating assembly. Have to think the supercharger is the way to go. I couldn't find anything on turbos, I'm going to look into them alittle more before I make up my mind.

the 13.60 time mods, thatll get you close to 370 h.p. like you wanted. and you wouldnt have to open up your top end. If thats what you were wanting, i`d go w/ that setup. and your still close enough to factory it would be great. but the 12.62 time is obviously better. Hard choice for the same money. good luck.
