yep, I've been MIA for a while, here's whats happened...
Hey guys and gals, I've been gone for a while. Mostly due to too much at work time and too many projects.(some of which are not even mine!) Now that winter is near, will have more time for here. I got three projects going at the same time. A '67 Barracuda, my '79 Power-wagon and now (drumroll please...) a 1995 Dodge Caravan (which predictably "chernobyled" the trans about a month after purchase)...{I was gonna say that "I blew a tranny in my mini-van" [hehehe...what was his name?.... lol] but that is just not right} Oh k then... the Barracuda project will get some pics on here eventually (i know, computer illiterate that I am) and the engine for the P-W is doin' machine shop jail-time. I wish that the guy could go a little faster but I am not really complainin' 'cus the guy is doing just some fabulous work all for a really good price. It's just a 'teener (318)
with some stock 360 heads, cast pistons and stock 4BBL intake and yes a Quadrajet (that came stock on the 360) I kinda' specialize in the Q-jets and they are great on the street for mileage witch is what I am after for now. Would like to get that truck on the road just for the winter. Will be searchin at the salvage for a trans (A670 aka; 31TH). Did an autopsy on mine and prognosis is not good. First ti was makin' a mild buzzin noise than one day last week went - "crunchy, crunchy, bang-pop-pop". I made it home and parked it. Dropped it out thursday and dissected it yesterday.
Both transfer gears are fragged, missin' a bunch of teeth on each. The sun shell is cracked all the way around in the area of the sun gear. The stator shaft looks like all the splines got a mild shave complete with grindings and the bearing on the output shaft ( the culprit if the whole mess I believe) is a nice brown color. I think it was a cheap rebuild trans at one time and the "pre=load was not set correctly on the output shaft bearings {selective shims}. Oh well, just borrowin' a chebbie-pickup, (oh sayitaintso...) from a friend of mine for now. Glad to be back, hope everyone is doin' good.

Hi Omaha! Welcome home! Busy here with stuff. The trans in one of the 99 Cirruses finally went [wife says it had nothing to do with the step-kid getting it stuck during the last snowfall of the year last spring, and reverse disappearing the next day!]. I think its the same as in the mini-van, the 41te [aka A604] In the coming weeks I will be rebuilding it myself. I'll try to make an article out of it. Good to see you back, you always have good advice.

hey scotts74birds, nice to hear from ya. Darn step-kid. (hope he aint red-headed too...). Oh well, I'm sure he'll turn out ok. Lookin forward to the trans build of yours. Those 604's are a totally different animal from my 670. Believe it or not, your tranny actually "learns" how you drive. (thats what I have read). No bands in your tranny (I think) all clutch packs and solenoids. I was trying to thimk of a way to operate one with switches and relays. Kinda like a manual valve body trans. someday?!
