Hi I have a 1982 Dodge camper van which seemed to run very well
Sometimes hard to start and recently lacking power on hills. We use
it between our home in BC and winter home in Baja only.A friend was
listening to the engine and told me I had a miss & should check the
plugs. All 4 on left side OK #1 & #3 OK but #5 & #7 heavily oiled
Then I checked and found that sparkplug wires to #3 & #5 had been
reversed. This has been like this for the 25,000 k I have driven the
vehicle. There is now 189000 k on the "clock" Is there anything I
should do now that I have identified the above problems before driving home .I have been using one liter oil per 1200 k Thanks Ernie

The head probably needs new seals.
You should check the compression of all the cylinders, it will tell you if you have a problem with the rings. Pour a can of fuel system cleaner in the gas tank to help clean the combustion chamber of all that oil. That will help some.
You have noticed what color smoke is coming out of the tail pipe?

"Then I checked and found that spark plug wires to #3 & #5 had been

you might have some oil build up on the valves/combustion chambers. if those plugs are still firing, it should now run better but those valves might have been burnt some.
if it runs ok, don't worry.
