318 to 360 swap on 72' Satallite
Hello everyone, I was hoping for some help with a motor swap on a friends 72' Satellite.
He just bought the car from a kid who was driving it with an engine noise.
After I pulled the pan, I found someone left a shop rag in the oil pan and it got sucked up into the strainer and starved the front two rods. (I have pics)
The kid couldn't afford to repair the car, so my friend bought it from him.
Anyway he is wanting to replace the 318 with a 360.
I was planning to order a 360 long block to install and the car currently has a 904 transmission in it.
I have some questions to try and make this swap go as smoothly as possible as this swapping stuff is not my forte.
1. Will the 318 timing cover work on the 360?
2. I understand we will need a 360 harmonic balancer and a balanced flex-plate, BUT I think I saw that there is a large and small bolt pattern on the flex-plates?
3. What else is not swappable? Valve covers, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, motor mounts, flywheel, oil pan?
4. What size carburetor makes the most sense for street use on the 360.
Thanks everyone!

Easiest to put what you have to change
These are both LA and not Magnums?
If so, you need a 360 pan to fit that car, IE rear sump truck won't work. Make sure the pump pickup will work with the new pan, or get one accordingly. You can get Milodon "replacement" pans from Summit / Jegs for a little over a hundred bucks
You need a harmonic balancer. You can buy these aftermarket from Summit, Jegs. Some have bolt in weights so that they can be configured for different engines
You need either a weighted torque converter for the 360, or else an aftermarket (BM) flex plate that is so balanced to use a "neutral" 318 converter against a 360
That's pretty much it. Everything else should bolt up. Depending one what heads/ manifolds there can be issues with exhaust manifolds on "smog" heads which have the injector ports.
