318 smog motor
I have a 318 in a 86 Fifth Ave with no ***** and no way for the engine to breath i have been looking for awhile for what motor or heads i can get to give this thing some breathing room or what years to look for at least. something i mean really this thing has barely has enough power to get out of its own way why did Chrysler ever think this was a good idea.
Emission laws is why.
First thing to do is see how tight your state is on emissions. If they are not that strict, then you have plenty of options as to how to get more power. If they are strict, then you are a little more limited.

If that is the case, then you should have no problem getting some more power out of it. Breathing in and out is what that motor needs. Is it TBI or carb?
Since you have the ability to not have it emissions tested, you can do a lot then. A better set of flowing heads is the place to start. Next is an intake and carb. you might have a hard time finding a set of headers unless someone here knows where you can get some, but after that, take it to an exhuast shop and have them make you a 2 1/4" exhuast with a set of mild mufflers (don't want to atract that much attention to yourself). After all that you have ignition, tranny and rear end upgrades that you can do.
