440 Cam Questions.
Hello Everyone,
I am in the planning stages of a 440 rebuild for my 67 Satellite. This is a "street" engine that will probably never see the track. It will probably be a 9.5 maybe 10 to 1 comp engine, dual plane intake, headers, automatic with probably a 3.23 to 3.50 rearend. I would like something with a slight lope at idle and that pulls good into the 5500 rpm range.
I read where Mopar Performance has a couple of cams that have been revised with a wider lobe sep angle(from 108 to 114). Has anyone tried these cams? What are your thought on these cams or what would you recommend?
Thanks,
Mike

mate there's nothing wrong with the purple series of mopar camshafts they may be old but they are tried and tested . i have one in my 383 & for street power it's great & quite a lopey idle the sound is spot on . my engine is probably what your trying achieve , if anything i think it's the stock inlet ports that are the limiting factor . even the resto 440 six pack cam would be ok just as a street cam , but i would go p4452993 280 * dur 60* over lap 110* centerline .474 lift & recommended spring p3690933 drag mild comp . i have a full list of mopar purple cams with recommended springs ect it Say's that cam is good for 14 - 13.5 et's . if you want so more spec's just let me know or pm me .
The specs you gave makes me believe you are looking to do something similiar to my project, the performer rpm is from what I hear a little much for the street.
From the calculations I ran with my setup, Edelbrock performer series entire kit, steel crank, and sealed power pistons, I am looking at about 400hp and 500+ ft/lbs torque. Maybe more as I don't think the program I used fully captured the cam's capabilities.

im just gonna put this out there. i would stay from edelbrock. they dont have many cam choices, and i personally wouldnt trust anything from then other than intakes, carburators, and performer RPM heads.
id say you'd have way better luck going with something from mopar.
but what i REALLY reccomend, is Isky cams. as far as im concerned, they are hands down the best camshaft manufacturer. when and if i ever rebuild the 360 in my truck, its getting an isky cam. And they have a huge selection of cams for economy, without robbing performance.
seriously go check them out.

hey guys fairs fair .
support mopar i reckon ,
p4452783 440 six pack 268*/ 284*, 46*overlap , 115* lobe sep , .450/458
p4286677 15.sec 272/272 *, 48* overlap , 112* lobe sep , 455/455
they will be spot on . these are still just mild but would perform well .
i thought edelbrock performer stuff was for stock replacement .
if i were spending good money I'd want some gain from my money .
if it cost the same or similar . if its not a daily driver why not have a little bit more under ya foot
.
