440 first build ???
ok so im a college student teaching myself everything. so 1st of all im broke. but its a 440 trw forged pistons .40 over msd 6al-2+coil+8mm supers. headders(nothing special). eld 750 carb. comp .509 comp cam. windage tray. stock stroke and crank. eld rpm air gap manifold. 9.5 to 1 comp. 727 trans. reverse throttle body(manual) 4500 stall. detroite locker posi on a 8 3/4 rear. ladder bars. 270 gear(waiting on delivery of 3.90s). what should this motor be putting out hp wise? its in a 68 satellite sport 3258lbs with driver. and what could i expect to see 1/4. also how much nitrous could i safely run on a stock crank thats .20 under with this build. thanks
There is software out there that will help you calculate, but I would say safe estimate probably 400hp maybe less.
I have a 440 .30 over, same pistons, Accel setup, same wires, same carb, same stall, and windage tray, but I have the Ed heads, cam that goes with the package, upgraded rockers, steel crank, 9 1/4 rear, different trans package, Schumacher headers, aluminum radiator with electric fan, upgraded fuel pump, upgraded timing chain, and probably some other stuff I can't think of. With my setup I was told conservatively 450 hp, probably more with proper tuning, and something around 500-550 torque. I have not done 1/4 mile timed, but it gets up and goes, hope this helps.
Somebody else might be able to give you a better estimate, but I think we all know that a dyno would probably be the way to find the exact numbers.

Commando brought up a good point. What heads are you going to use? Why the nitrous? On you first build, I would stay away from it. Your car is much lighter than my cuda, and I have gone 11.95 this year.
