AMC 360 into a 71 Scamp
Hello...I have a built AMC 360 sitting here at my shop waiting for a car to go in and found a decent 71 Scamp I'm thinking of getting off a friend of mine with no motor. Does anyone know what it may take to install the AMC engine in the Scamp?

Hi josh, You know amc soppied alot of stuff from ma mopar in the day. i believe the trans is basically the same.you may need to get some mopar motor mounts then fab them up to fit the duster, the trans mount shold be the same. Id do it. sounds like a cool project.

You'll need an AMC tranny as I don't think the bell housings are the same. It would be a cool swap though. If you have a SB or BB 727 tranny (or have a friend that has one) try mating them up and see.
I have an AMC 360 in my J10 and those motors are great! They make a ton of torque stock and don't take much to make a lot more.

Dead - I know in the FSJs they came with Th400 and then went to the 727. Both are great trannies, both have the AMC bellhousing and the TH400 uses Chevy parts and the 727 uses SB Mopar parts.
If the tranny is a TH400, on the pan will be stamped "Division Of General Motors - Hydromatic". Another way to tell is how the pan is shaped.
